During the time Verian and Heaton were admitted to the hospital, there were always some dumb and insensible people to disturb their sweet moments.
Two days ago was Wanelle and today, it was Jane.
James had dropped by to visit earlier, but his purpose had simply been to visit Heaton and Verian. He did not mention the kidnapping case at all during his conversations with them.
Heaton understood James’s implied meaning. He was implying that Heaton needed to solve the matter himself and do as he wished because James did not want any involvement in it.
After all, it was Sarah and Jane’s fault. Second Uncle was always a reasonable person, so he would not unreasonably cover up people’s faults.
This attitude was very different from that of John.
Heaton sometimes felt that both his father and second uncle were not blood-related brothers because their personalities were very different from each other.
James was a reasonable and straightforward person while John, albeit donning a stern look, would defend someone to the extreme despite having knowledge that they were in the wrong.
For example, last year Little Jelly Bean had first started to attend kindergarten. The little kid was quick with her hands and scratched one of the little kids there. At the time, Heaton was busy with work, so John was the one who was in charge of Little Jelly Bean’s matters. John used to command the business world, which meant he was supposed to be a logical and reasonable person. However, the reality was that Heaton had underestimated John’s ability to cover up for faults from the people he cared about.
Little Jelly Bean hit someone, which caused the kindergarten teacher to admonish her slightly. Like a crybaby, she would get upset easily. Hence, it was normal for her to cry for a while. However, when John arrived at the kindergarten, how did he handle this matter? He held his granddaughter in his arms and without trying to figure out what had happened, he unreasonably and relentlessly reprimanded the kindergarten teacher.
At times, John would not try to understand who was at fault. He would only look at who the person was and if he simply wanted to defend the person he cared for, no one could stand in his way.
Ever since that incident, the kindergarten teachers were extremely gentle and soft toward Little Jelly Bean.
After that, Heaton brought Little Jelly Bean to the teacher’s house to apologize. However, John’s unreasonable image had already been strongly imprinted into most of the teachers.
Therefore, this incidence led Little Jelly Bean to changing schools from a state kindergarten to an international one.
On the contrary, James acted differently in similar types of situations. Sarah took the blame for Jane and had been detained in the police station for a few days. However, his Second Uncle had never mentioned anything to him, having no intention to put in a good word for them.
The moment Jane entered the ward, her eyes were red and puffy. She kneeled down with a loud thud in front of Heaton.
“Brother, I beg you! I’m the one at fault and it’s all my wrongdoing… I’m your sister, so how can you be so ruthless toward me?”
Heaton glanced coldly toward her. “I’m not the one you should beg for forgiveness from even if you want it.”
Jane’s heart skipped a beat and her heart sank.
Heaton wanted her to beg Verian for forgiveness?
Why should she beg Verian? If it weren’t for Verian, she would not have to kneel for forgiveness. She would not even have to live in fear like she was doing right now.
Jane did not move an inch but Heaton had no intention of backing down either.
Jane gazed toward Heaton. “Brother, you’re adamant in wanting me to beg her instead?”
“No. I don’t want you to beg her. However, you’ve always owed her an apology, right?”
Apology?
Why should she apologize to Verian!
Jane’s bloodshot eyes were full of tears. It was obvious that she had not slept well these days or perhaps, had not gotten any sleep at all.
Jane bit her pale lips, nearly hurting them.
She gulped down her saliva and after convincing herself repeatedly, slowly turned her body toward Verian and kneeled before her.
“I'm sorry.”
Verian did not know how to respond to Jane’s “I am sorry”. This was because, deep in her heart, she did even want to forgive her at all even though she knew that without Jane’s intervention, her child would most likely be unsavable either.
However, Jane had become the proximate cause of this incident. How could a mere sorry make her forgive Jane’s sin?
Verian was indifferent and did not utter a word. Instead, Heaton voiced it out on her behalf.
“Your apology was too superficial and casual.”
