In the Quain family mansion.
Soon after Yanni brought Sam back to the Quain family mansion, Wanelle had also hastily arrived.
Wanelle heard that Yanni would be bringing Sam back home for their family reunion dinner. It was a family reunion dinner, so the implications were that Yanni was planning to allow Uncle Quain to accept Sam as a part of their family.
When Zenith Quain noticed that everyone had arrived at lunchtime, he uttered in a deep voice, “Everyone, please take a seat.”
After everyone was seated, the maids started serving the dishes.
Sam had a small appetite and as they were eating, Yanni kept refilling her bowl with food, making her feel slightly embarrassed. She muttered, “I can do it myself.”
Upon seeing how his son doted on this woman, Zenith could not help but scrutinize the woman who sat beside him.
Zenith asked, “Is Ms. Joyce the reason why you don’t want to get married?”
For the past few years, Zenith had introduced multiple fine, excellent women to him. The girls had good family backgrounds, were beautiful, and had plenty of emotionally intelligence. However, Yanni had never taken a liking to them.
Initially, Zenith thought Yanni might have had high standards when it came to women. However, after meeting Ms. Joyce, he could not see what was outstanding about her compared to the others. Her only forte was that she had captivated his son, causing him to be head over heels for her and unable to take a liking to other women.
Sam was inferior in every way compared to the women Zenith had introduced to his son.
In terms of looks, Sam was indeed beautiful. However, her looks were not exquisite enough to compel people to glance her way. Her family background was also not illustrious.
Yanni held Sam’s hand and announced, “Dad, I brought Sammie here today to let you meet her. I plan to marry her after the new year.”
Sam was startled. Although she knows he had always wanted to marry her, she did not expect him to actually put it on the agenda.
Wanelle sitting beside them frowned. However, there was still a warm and gentle smile on her face. “Brother Yanni, this is your first time bringing Ms. Joyce home and you’ve already brought up marriage. Isn’t it too early for that?”
Yanni did not even glance at Wanelle. He pursed his thin lips and said coldly. “As an outsider, you have no right to say whether it’s too early or not.”
Wanelle bit her lips, unable to accept that fact.
Zenith then broke the silence. “Yanni, this news is indeed far too sudden. You brought a girl home without telling us and now you’re telling me you want to marry her. You’re just notifying me, I presume?”
“Dad, I don’t care whether you like Sam or agree on letting her be a daughter-in-law of the Quain Family. I’ll marry her no matter how.”
“You…”
Zenith sighed. Ever since Yanni Quain’s mother passed away, his relationship with this child had always been cold and strained. They had never been close but when it came to marriage, he as a father could not just stay put and let him do as he wished.
“Yanni, your Aunt Sheen is still in the police station and no one knows how long it’ll take to resolve the matter. You said you want to marry Sam after the new year, and that’s just around the corner. In my opinion, you should postpone this idea of marriage first!”
Yanni sneered. “Queena Sheen was detained because of her misdeeds. So if she were to be jailed for a few years, I can’t get married anymore?”
Yanni had never liked Queena and her daughter. On normal days, he did not stay in the Quain family mansion, which meant that he did not have much contact with them. However, Zenith brought up Quenna’s ordeal in order to postpone his marriage with Sam, thus deepening his hatred toward the mother and daughter duo.
“Yanni, how can you say that!”
“Dad, I brought Sammie here today because I genuinely wish to get your blessing. Regardless, it doesn’t really matter to me if you won’t agree. After all, I practically don’t share any relations with the Quain family other than in name and blood ties.”
“You!” Zenith was furious, his words stuck in his throat.
Sam pulled Yanni’s sleeves lightly underneath the table, hinting at him to not talk about this further. However, Yanni clasped her hand instead. “Sammie, let’s go.”
Yanni held her hand tightly, turning his back against Zenith and Wanelle as he walked out of the Quain family mansion without a care about how they would react.
They were only halfway through the meal and when Zenith heard the sounds of an engine revving from the yard, his brows tightened. He slammed his fists on the table, feeling enraged. “That damn bastard!”
Wanelle went over and comforted Zenith to show her care and consideration toward him. “Uncle, don’t be angry at Brother Yanni. He’s just captivated by her beauty and not in a clear mind momentarily. He’ll understand your sincere and good intentions in the future.”
