Lain was slightly stunned. Her gaze darkened for a few seconds before it turned back to normal. She lifted her hands and gently wiped away the tears on Jane’s face. “We’re here to talk about your problems today. Why did you mention her? Is your sorrow related to her?”
Jane clenched her fists even tighter when Verian’s name came up. She bit her lower lip, her eyes filled with hatred. “I’ve always been my brother’s favorite person. Why is everybody siding with Verian after she married my brother? Even my father is siding with her. He wants to give half his property to this woman. Lain, I don’t get it. What is so good about Verian? I’m fine with my brother being nice to her, but why is my dad treating her so nice too?”
“What did you say? Uncle wants to give half his property to Verian?” Lain was shocked.
Jane trembled with rage and started sobbing as she vented, “But why… Who is she to receive this kind of treatment?! I am my father’s daughter and Verian is nothing. How can she just take half of my father’s property without reason? I don’t care about the property…but I just can’t help be infuriated… I can’t stand my father’s attitude!”
Lain thought something was odd the more details she got out of this story.
Moments ago, James wanted her to carry out a DNA test, and now Jane was telling her that James wanted to give half his property to Verian.
Could Verian be the biological daughter of James and his first love?
Lain was shocked.
If Verian was really James’s biological daughter, did that not mean that Heaton and Verian …were half-siblings?!
“Janny, I’m very confused. What exactly is going on here?”
Jane said, “I… I have no idea why my father is siding Verian so much. He even fought with my mother because of her. What kind of magic spell did Verian cast on my father and my brother? How did she manage to fool them?”
“Maybe Verian is a really good person.”
Jane immediately sneered as she heard Jane’s words. “Good? Which part of her is good? She’s just pretending to be good. Only my father and my brother are fooled by her pure image!”
Lain patted her shoulder to comfort her. “After all, Verian is your sister-in-law now. She’s married to Heaton, unless…”
Lain paused for a moment.
“Unless what?”
Lain told her, “Unless she gets a divorce from your brother. Nobody will protect her then.”
Jane’s fingers dug tighter into her palms.
“But my brother loves her too much. There’s no way he’ll get a divorce with her.”
“What I mean, Jane, is that what if he has to choose between two of his most important things. Do you think he will still choose Verian?”
Jane’s brows furrowed. Confused, she asked, “Choose between two of his most important things? I think that woman is what he treasures most now!”
Lain reminded her, “Dignity and status are the most important things to a man. If they have only love but not dignity and status, they will soon avoid love. A man who has lost his glory will not have the heart to seek love.”
“Lain, are you trying to say…”
Lain laughed suddenly and said, “I’m not implying anything. I’m just giving an example. Janny, you don’t have to hold a grudge against Verian. She’s just a passer-by in your brother’s life and will leave soon. You’re the one who is blood-related to your brother. He will stand by your side sooner or later after he gets over Verian.”
“Is that true, Lain?”
Lain nodded her head seriously.
...
After Sarah left with Jane, Lain immediately started the DNA test.
According to what Jane said, the “daughter” that James mentioned must be Verian. Therefore, the hair samples had to be James’ and Verian’s.
If the results turned out to be positive…
Lain’s red lips twitched.
