When Verian woke up, she unconsciously reached out to touch the spot beside her. She could not feel anything and was startled. When she opened her eyes, she found that Heaton was gone.
She quickly put on her coat and got out of bed to find him.
He could not see now. Where had he gone all alone?
Verian searched around the ward and bathroom but could not find him so she hurried out to look for him.
When she walked to the front, she saw Heaton standing there, being scolded fiercely by a middle-aged woman.
"You're a blind man! Can't you wear sunglasses and bring a walking stick when going out? My dekopons all fell to the ground and were smashed! You should compensate for them!"
"Really! Don't leave the ward if you're blind! You’ll just cause trouble!"
Verian became angry and strode quickly toward Heaton. Blocking Heaton, she told the fat, middle-aged woman, "Who are you to scold a blind man?"
The fat, middle-aged woman was shocked and took a glance at Verian. "Hpmh, it's his matter. Does it have anything to do with you? Or are you willing to pay for my dekopons?"
"Apologize to him!" Verian was filled with righteous indignation, her tone unusually firm.
The fat, middle-aged woman was not someone to mess with, and her temper flared. "I won't apologize. What are you going to do about it?"
The woman came up and pushed Verian. Verian was prepared for that, so she was only pushed back slightly and ran into Heaton's arms.
Heaton quickly held her with his hands. "Don't fall."
As he could not see with his eyes, it was hard for him to protect her. Also, she was pregnant. If she argued with others, she might get hurt.
For the first time, Heaton was willing to put up with it and chose to patch up the quarrel. He took her wrist and said, "Rainie, let's go back."
Verian had always been obedient but this time, she was very stubborn. She pushed away Heaton's hand and said slowly, "I won't go back if she doesn't apologize to you."
Heaton's heart felt as if it had been severely burnt by something. It became very hot and numb.
Verian glared at the middle-aged woman. "Apologize to my husband!"
This attracted many bystanders to gather around.
The middle-aged woman was very domineering and unreasonable. "He’s blind and won't let anyone talk about it?"
"He’s just temporarily blind. He only hit you on accident and you keep calling him blind. Even if he's really blind, I won't allow others to say that to him!"
Heaton was so perfect. How could he be criticized and called blind behind his back? Verian totally forbade it!
"Yeah. He has problems with his vision but you shouldn't discriminate against him."
"Your dekopons just dropped to the ground, they aren’t crushed. It'll be fine if you just pick them up. He didn't hit you on purpose. You keep calling him blind and it’s uncomfortable to listen to."
The people watching the scene nearby were all accusing the middle-aged woman scolding Heaton. She seemed to be afraid of everyone's attacks. She gritted her teeth and stared at Verian. Although she was unwilling, she was helpless because she was afraid of the attention she was getting from the hospital staff and security. Reluctantly, she said, "Just now, I was wrong. I'm sorry. Is that enough?"
After the middle-aged woman apologized, she wanted to leave with the dekopons. Verian stopped her.
"Wait!"
"What do you want?"
Verian took out a hundred bucks from her pocket and put the money into her plastic bag. "Take this money and buy more dekopons! You don't have to say thank you."
"You..."
Verian had already turned around and took Heaton's arm. "Dear, let's go back."
Heaton's mouth curved upward. This seemed to be the first time someone had stood in front of him to protect him. It was not a bad feeling and he actually enjoyed it a bit.
After returning to the ward, Verian asked, "Why did you go out alone? If you want to go out, you should bring me with you."
"Why? Are you afraid I’ll get lost?"
"Yeah. Now, I have to take care of you like taking care of Little Jelly Bean. Only then, can I rest assured."
Verian saw that he was silent and asked, "You haven't told me yet. Why did you go out just now?"
