Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 386

Verian was frozen to the spot. Her back felt stiff. However, it was not because she heard Gerome's name. It was because everyone in the room had turned around to look at her.

She immediately felt embarrassed.

Gerome's gaze also landed on Verian.

"Verian?"

Gerome got up and walked toward her. He pulled a chair for her like a gentleman and said, "Long time no see. You've grown prettier."

Verian's mind was a mess, but she cracked a polite smile and said, "Long time no see."

"Oh, it seems like Gerome still misses Verian!"

Verian blushed. She was not ashamed, but she felt embarrassed.

However, Gerome felt indifferent since he was used to those friendly teases between friends, and he knew that they meant well. So, he switched seats with the person next to him to sit next to Verian.

Since the room was crowded with people and loud, Gerome did not rush to catch up with Verian.

There were many male classmates in the room, but some still had not arrived yet. Many of them had begun to smoke, and soon, the entire room was filled with smog. Verian hated second-hand smoke, mostly since she was pregnant, so she had to take extra care.

She raised her head at the people around her and softly said, "I need to use the washroom. Please excuse me."

The moment Verian stepped out of the room, someone said, "Go after her, Gerome. Since you addressed her as Verian and not Miss Mont, why don't you be a little more direct?"

"Yeah, if any of our classmates here started dating, we would be able to attend their wedding soon!"

"Yeah, old classmates are excellent matches!"

Gerome laughed. He was a little bashful when everyone teased him. He stood up and said, "I'll check on her."

Verian wore a thin dress. Even though the weather would turn warm soon, there were no heaters outside, so she felt a little cold.

She rubbed her arms and lamented to herself, 'If only I had listened to Heaton, I should've worn a jacket.'

She was only close to a few classmates, and she considered Helen one of them. She sent her friend a WeChat message to ask about her whereabouts because she felt like a fool when she had to wait by herself in the room.

She swore that she would never attend reunions like those again.

The reunion was like a competition. Her classmates had already worked for a long time, so those with a good position would flaunt their success to everyone who would listen. Those who were wealthy would also show off the famous brand items they had on them. The situation had left a bitter taste in her mouth.

That would be the first and last high school reunion she would ever attend. She was not an extrovert anyway.

"Verian."

Gerome had followed her outside.

Verian turned around to look at him and asked, "What are you doing out here?"

Gerome chuckled and said, "Aren't you cold out here? It's very windy."

Gerome took his jacket off and draped it on Verian's shoulder. However, she refused it. "There's no need for that. I'm not cold, but thanks."

Still, Gerome draped his jacket on her shoulders.

Verian did not know what to say.

"You looked a little pale, and yet you say you're not cold."

Verian replied, "Maybe I had too much foundation on my face."

Gerome looked at her warmly as he said, "There are too many people inside the room, and it's pretty nice out here too. I can talk with you now. I hope you won't mind their bluntness."

"No, it's okay."

"I never had the chance to contact you all these years. I've asked a lot of our classmates, but none of them could contact you either. Furthermore, I went to America for my studies right after graduation. I didn't get to keep in touch with other people too. However, I'm back here now. We can keep in touch for next time."

Verian nodded with a smile as she replied, "Sure."

"So… How have you been for the last two years?" Gerome asked hesitantly.

Some things were too difficult to say.
