When they returned to the hotel, Verian stared at the Irish marriage certificate, and her heart almost melted.
Verian did not even hear Heaton when he called out to her several times as he came out from the shower.
It was not until Heaton inched his way and grabbed her that she snapped out of her trance. She tried to keep the marriage certificate away.
"What are you doing? Didn't you hear me calling you?"
"Nothing. Now that you're done with your shower, it's my turn then."
Verian tried her best to slip away.
When they laid in bed at night, Verian touched the massive diamond as she curiously asked, "Heaton, how much do you think such a huge diamond ring is worth?"
"What's the matter? Are you planning to sell it?" The man raised his eyebrows.
The woman in his embrace replied, "Of course not. It's just pure curiosity. If I don't sell it, a huge diamond will only be a huge rock if I just kept it at home, you know. I truly cannot understand…the world of the wealthy, like yours."
Heaton chuckled as he lowered his head to kiss her temple. He whispered, "That statement makes no sense since you're the wife of a wealthy man."
Verian laughed as she hugged him. "I'm not an evil vampire, you know."
Heaton pulled the blanket to cover both of them. "Alright then, I'll be the vampire in this relationship. You can sit back and enjoy your life. Sleep now. Stop staring at the marriage certificate and that diamond ring. You'll have more time to stare at them in the future."
Verian blushed when he exposed her. "How did you know I was doing that?"
"Come on now, are you trying to lie to me? You'd be more prone to being lied to instead." The man scoffed.
Verian pouted. "Other people can lie to me for all I care, but you're not allowed to do that."
"Even if I did, you wouldn't know."
"Heaton!"
"Alright, Madam Fudd. Mr. Fudd is really tired after a full day of sight-seeing with you. I still have a meeting with my collaborators tomorrow morning. So, I won't be keeping you company tomorrow. Be a good girl, okay?"
Verian reluctantly said, "Okay." Then she asked, "When are we heading back to North City?'
"If everything goes smoothly tomorrow, we should be returning the day after tomorrow."
"That soon?"
Heaton nuzzled her soft hair with his chin and spoke in a deep voice, "I had originally planned for a full schedule, but since the terrorists attacked Italy and you are here now, my schedule's completely ruined. I have decided to let go of the market for now."
Verian felt slightly guilty about that. "Should I not have come?"
The man kissed her forehead and comforted. "Nope, you can come. I am thrilled that you're here. Riana, I am delighted."
A wife who was willing to stand by his side no matter the circumstances was hard to find.
…
After Heaton had breakfast with Verian, he left with Kush to meet with his business collaborators. Verian remained in the hotel since Heaton did not allow her to go out alone because he was worried that Verian might run into some scummy foreigners again. So, she could only browse the Internet in the room.
As she scrolled through Weibo, she noticed a viral discussion about the price of the royal tiara of some princesses in some random country. Then she recalled the ten-carat diamond ring that Heaton gave her the previous day.
She took a picture of that ring and uploaded a post on the discussion board with a throwaway account.
"My friend's husband is insanely rich, and he had recently given her a huge diamond ring. She's curious to know how much it's worth, but her husband wouldn't tell her. Does anyone know how much this diamond ring is worth?"
Perhaps the post had too much hidden 'meaning' as it did not take long for some Internet users to respond to it.
