Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 429

After a few days' resting at Clear River Town, Serene's father and mother noticed that Serene had never mentioned the matter of going back to North City to work.

Hence during breakfast, Serene's mother pretended to mention it inadvertently. “Renie, when will you be going back to the city to work? Your father and I are planning to wrap some dumplings and freeze them for you so you can bring them back to the city. With that, you wouldn’t always have to order outside food.”

Serene was stunned for a while. She munched on the crunchy, deep-fried breadsticks and lowered her gaze slightly. “Dad, mom, I’m most likely not going back to the city to work.”

“Why?”

Serene's father and mother glanced at her curiously, waiting for her explanation.

Serene bit her lip in nervousness. “I’ve already resigned from interning at the hospital so I won’t be going back to work for now.”

Her father and mother were both in a daze at the sudden turn of events.

Serene's mother then frowned. “Why did you resign? It was such a good job for you to be working at the hospital. Weren’t you always hoping to work in the city?”

“Mom, can you not ask me questions anymore? No matter what, I’ll look for a new job as soon as I can. You both don’t have to worry about me living at home like a parasite that can only depend on both of you.”

“This girl, do you think I’m scared that you’ll rely on us? I’m merely thinking that it’ll look better for you to work in such a big hospital in the city. Once you become their official employee, your salary will increase, which is a good thing. You impulsively resigned without discussing it with your family first. Serene, you were a tad impulsive this time and just did things on a whim.”

Serene was in a bad mood. She put down her bowl and chopsticks after a few mouthfuls of rice. “I’ve finished eating. Take your time.”

“This child…”

“Alright, just nag her less. Our daughter is still being sad over her breakup.” Serene's father patted her mother’s shoulder.

Serene's mother wriggled away from his hand. “All right, all right! Please don’t sit on the fence and be the mediator between us now.”

The first few days since Serene came home, and she was treated like a treasure. However, as time passed, their generosity deteriorated.

Serene's mother was not able to stand her waking up late every day while she surfed online using her phone or computer the whole day. She was also unable to stand her watching soap operas while munching on packets of potato chips. Sometimes, she also guffawed loudly while watching soap operas with bits of potato chips in her mouth.

Serene's mother was helping her clean and tidy up her room while figuring out what to say to her. “Renie, I’ve asked some people’s help to recommend you to a job at our village’s Resident Medical Center. Why don’t you go for the interview tomorrow morning? With your qualifications, it should be sufficient for you to get a job there. During the interview, you just have to speak nicely and sweet-talk them, do you understand?”

Serene was watching her soap opera and showed no signs of reluctance or resistance when she heard the suggestion. “Alright. Remember to wake me up tomorrow morning then.”

Serene's mother was momentarily astonished. She did not expect her to agree so readily and quickly to her suggestion. She thought that her daughter would still hope to work in North City.

This was strange.

“Then I’ll wake you up earlier tomorrow morning. Remember to sleep earlier tonight. Don’t watch dramas till one or two in the morning, understand?”

“I know. I’ll sleep soon.”

Serene's mother exited from her bedroom and closed the door.

This was too strange. She must have been dealt a strong blow in North City.

The interview went by very smoothly. Unsurprising and without any hiccups, Serene was accepted and successfully hired by the center.

Serene's father and mother were happy that Serene could work in the village since they would now be able to watch over her every day.

After recommending jobs to her, Serene's mother then started to busy herself with finding a marriage partner for Serene.

Once Serene was off work and came home, Serene's mother mysteriously brought over a few photos to show her.

“This is your Aunt Grace’s nephew. You’ve played with him before when you were small. Do you remember him?”

Serene shook her head. “This was so long ago. How can anyone remember this?”

“Aunt Grace’s nephew will be coming back for a short holiday from the city this weekend. Look at this photo, he’s grown up quite handsome, hasn’t he?”

Serene frowned. “Mom, you have been jabbering the whole while about this man. Are you planning to arrange a blind date for me with him?”

“What do you mean by a blind date? Don’t make it so unpleasant to hear! Both of you can just meet each other and reminisce on the old days. You two can start from being normal friends and only proceed if it feels right.”

Serene sighed and glanced upward toward the clear blue sky. “Mom, I’m not close with him at all. What is there to reminisce about?”
