Once the knife was snatched away from Jean, Heaton immediately hauled Little Jelly Bean from the backseat into his embrace!
Yandel did an emergency brake all of sudden and Jean, who was sitting behind, knocked her head against the back of the front seat!
When Jean recovered from her senses and wanted to open the door to escape, Yandel had already alighted from the car and caught her, pressing her onto the floor!
Heaton removed the black blindfold from Little Jelly Bean’s eyes. Once the little kid saw Heaton, she immediately wailed and her two short, stubby hands tightly hugged Heaton’s neck.
“Dad… I’m scared!”
Heaton knew Little Jelly Bean was greatly shocked by this kidnapping incident. She had been well protected by him and John since she was young and had never encountered these types of kidnapping cases before. Therefore, it was normal for her to be extremely frightened. No matter how clever and ingenious she was, she would also be quivering in fear in these situations as she was just a young kid.
Heaton hugged Little Jelly Bean firmly and lowered his head to kiss her forehead. He tried to calm her down. “Don’t be afraid. Nothing will happen to you now. I’m here.”
“Dad, I’m afraid… Dad, hug me.”
The little kid’s fear and trauma in her heart were difficult to pacify and vanquish in a short period of time. After coaxing her for a long time, she fell asleep as she was too tired. However, his brows were still scrunched up, with fear written all over her face.
Heaton felt a pang in a heart when he looked at his daughter.
When the police finally came to take Jean away, Yandel sent Heaton and Little Jelly Bean to the hospital.
...
When Verian and Xylean received the news, they quickly rushed to the hospital.
She ran all the way to the ward after alighting from the car. When she arrived at their medical ward, she was panting and was out of breath.
As her eyes fell upon Heaton and Little Jelly Bean who were safe in the ward, the feelings of fear and worry lumped in her throat finally dissipated as she heaved a sigh of relief.
It was as if a violin string had suddenly snapped when she relaxed her tightened nerves. Standing by the entrance, Verian reached out with her hand to cover her mouth and sobbed uncontrollably.
Fortunately, the two people she loved the most were safe and sound.
When Heaton turned around and saw Verian standing by the entrance with red and puffy eyes, he was momentarily stunned before getting out of the bed and walking toward her.
Without saying a word, he reached out his arms to hug her.
At this time, hugs provided more warmth and security than words.
Verian buried her head in his shoulder and sobbed quietly. Suddenly, she anxiously reached out her hand and groped his body. “Are you and Little Jelly Bean hurt anywhere? Is everything alright? What did the doctor say?”
Heaton pushed her away slightly and wiped away the tears on her face. Glancing at Little Jelly Bean who was sleeping on the bed, he whispered to her, “Let’s talk outside.”
Verian sniffed and quickly nodded. Heaton then held her hand as they both quietly left the ward.
Once they were outside, Verian noticed that one of Heaton’s hands was hurt and it did not seem like a light injury. Even though the wound was treated and bandaged, smears of fresh blood could still be seen through the white gauze and bandage.
“Heaton, your hand...”
“It’s been bandaged. It’s just a superficial wound. It’s nothing serious.”
Verian gently stroked the bandage on his palm. Her tears fell onto his palm, dampening the bandage. She lowered her eyes to the floor and remorsefully apologized, “I’m sorry. If I weren’t careless, Little Jelly Bean wouldn’t have been kidnapped and you wouldn’t be hurt. Heaton, will you still believe me in the future?”
Heaton felt her question was a bit silly as he glanced at her. “Why should I not trust you?”
“After this incident, you won’t let me care for Little Jelly Bean alone again, right? I’m not a qualified mother.”
“Just because of this unprecedented incident, you’re denying yourself and your abilities? No one could have foreseen any of this happening. Besides, it also happened in the school compound. Even if I was with Little Jelly Bean at that time, I highly doubt this still wouldn’t have happened to us. Therefore, this isn’t your fault.”
