Upon noticing Guin being a little nervous, Verian said with a smile, “Of course I can. You were once my bestfriend and you’ve helped me through some of my toughest moments. Guinnie, I am truly thankful for everything you’ve helped me with back then. Perhaps, without that little push you gave me, I might not even end up with Heaton. Fate is truly an interesting thing. Without that little intervention by someone in life, a couple might not even end up together.”
When Guin looked at Verian, she gradually grew envious as she said, “Verian, I’m really envious of you. I know both my uncle and you love each other but sometimes, I can’t help but wonder if I’m really that unlucky to have never met someone that’s right for me. I think Yanni is right. Since I’ve once toyed with feelings, my feelings are now being toyed in return. It’s karma.”
Verian held onto her hand and comforted her, “No way, Guinnie. You will find love that belongs to you. Perhaps, it’s not your time yet and it will come sooner or later but as long as you’re willing to wait for it, it will appear.”
“So… you think Yanni isn’t someone I should love?”
Verian silently took a deep breath as she said, “Do you want to hear the truth or not?”
“The truth, obviously.”
Verian raised her brows slightly and said honestly, “I feel that you guys were unsuitable for each other from the very start. I can’t tell you why but perhaps, this is just my intuition as a spectator. This was probably due to how strong Yanni’s feelings toward Sam are, resulting in him neglecting everything else in the world except for her. Guinnie, it’s impossible for you to capture his heart. The timing for you meeting him isn’t right, the situation isn’t right and even your target isn’t right. Under such circumstances, he will never have feelings toward you.”
Both of Guin’s eyes gradually teared up. Her voice sounded slightly shaky as she said, “But… But Verian, I think I’ve actually fallen for him this time. Although he has never done anything for me, I just can’t let go of him. This relationship feels different to all the previous relationships I had. When I broke up with him, I thought I’d only be sad for a while and after distracting myself with a vacation, I wouldn’t feel so sad anymore. However, even after a long while has passed, I still can’t help myself from asking about him. I paid so close attention to him even while he was with Sam too.”
“Guinnie, I can understand you but…”
“Do you think I’m shameless or even more so, mad for doing that? However, the thing is, love is unreasonable. I don’t want to fall for him too as I am aware that I am insignificant to Yanni but I just can’t help myself from caring about him.”
Verian reached silently to hug her while patting her slender back.
At times like these, a hug from a friend would be more useful than advice.
“You will Guinnie. You will find a better man that loves and cares about you.”
Heaton returned not long after that as he said, “Everything’s taken care of. The doctor and the nurses will transfer Yanni into a ward later.”
Guin calmly said, “Thank you, uncle.”
“What are you thanking me for? Although I don’t want to lecture you, you should be clear about the relationship you share with Yanni. He might be admitted for more than a week. Are you going to take care of him for the entire week?”
Verian secretly tugged Heaton’s sleeves, hinting at him to stop lecturing Guin. However, a man like Heaton was obviously different from empathetic women like Verian. They were both completely different people in terms of personalities.
“I…”
“It’s fine if you stay here to take care of him but you need to be clear about who you are to him. Are you going to be taking care of Yanni as his ex-girlfriend? His friend? Or perhaps his rebound?”
Heaton nearly spouted the words ‘replacement girlfriend’ as Verian stared at Guin’s face which was gradually turning pale. She immediately pinched Heaton’s arm.
Did this man even know how to comfort other people?
Guin felt slightly destroyed as she spoke in a soft tone, “I… I will think it through clearly.”
“Since Yanni is fine now, I will head home with your aunt. Be careful on your drive home.”
Guin replied, “Sure.”
