Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 569

The next morning, Serene grabbed two steamed buns and headed straight to the hospital. She did not even accompany Wilson at breakfast.

Wilson felt that the woman was a little upset after he told her that he did not want kids for the time being.

After a busy morning at work, Serene had lunch in the canteen with her colleagues.

She had lunch with a head nurse and a female doctor from their department.

The doctor asked, "Nurse, why is Lydia absent today?"

Lydia was a young nurse from their department.

The chubby head nurse said, "Didn't you guys know that Lydia is pregnant? She's about three months pregnant, and she's doing her antenatal check-up in our hospital."

Serene was slightly stunned. "I thought Lydia is not married yet?"

"That's the problem. She got pregnant out of wedlock, and that's what made it more cumbersome. Her boyfriend has a weird family. He grew up in a poor family, and he's not local. He came from a place where the couple can only get married if she gives birth to a son."

Serene was even more surprised when she heard that. "Come on, is there such a custom in this day and age?"

"I know, right? Lydia is such a nice girl; she's good at her job, and she's quite pretty too. How did she fall for a guy with such a background? She must be blinded by love."

Her colleague shook her head and sighed. "Well, everybody has a different destiny. By the way, did her boyfriend not defend her at all? He should have at least got them registered for marriage before she gives birth to the baby."

The head nurse laughed coldly. "Lydia wouldn't be so miserable today if that man actually stood up for her. But Lydia chose him as her boyfriend so we can't blame anybody for that. She can only blame herself for choosing the wrong guy."

Serene was taken aback when she heard that.

"Little Ludd, you're still young, so don't make a mistake like what Lydia. She ruined her happiness by choosing a guy like that! I'll introduce you to some good men next time!"

Serene came back to her senses and smiled awkwardly. "It's fine. I already have a boyfriend."

The head nurse and the doctor tried to pry more information from her. "You have a boyfriend? Why didn't you say anything about him before this? Is he from our hospital?"

"No, he's not from our hospital."

"Introduce him to us next time. We'll help you check him out."

Serene was lost in her own thoughts after lunch.

Would Wilson flee from his responsibility because he did not like kids? What if Serene were pregnant?

Serene texted Verian, "Verian, I need to ask you something. If a man really loves you, would he want a baby with you?"

Verian replied immediately, "Of course, unless he doesn't want you to suffer from giving birth to a baby."

"What if the girl had already expressed her fondness for kids?"

Verian sensed that something was wrong. "Dr. Jarret doesn't want to have a baby with you?"

Serene kept silent.

Was it that obvious?

She felt a little melancholy when she put down her phone.

It was not like she desperately wanted kids right away, but what mattered to her was the reason Wilson did not want to have kids.

The hospital's director had a new baby, so he wanted to treat everybody to dinner after work.

Serene texted Wilson. [Our department is having a gathering tonight. I won't be back for dinner.]

They arrived at the restaurant, and the director ordered a whole table of food. There were even a few bottles of beer and white wine.

"I'm in an excellent mood today, so go ahead and order anything you want. Also, those who are not on duty tonight may drink these alcohols here. Those who are on duty are not allowed to take even a sip, alright?!"

"Don't worry, Director. We don't want any alcohol, but we're going to order more food."

"No problem. You guys should eat more, especially those who are so skinny like Serene. Our department is always busy; you skinny people might collapse if you have to pull an all-nighter."
