Verian endured the pain on her stomach where Wanelle kicked her. She got up from the ground and looked vigilantly at the stranger in front of her.
Despite putting up a wonderful act just now, the man saw through her. “Sir, this is none of your business. It’s better for you to step out from this matter.”
The man stared amusedly at her. He wore a ridiculous look and a faint smile on his face. “Don’t worry, I’m not your enemy. You don’t have to be cautious of me. If I wanted to go against you, I would’ve gone on stage to expose you when you dipped your finger in the chili just now.”
Verian felt a little awkward when she found out that he saw through her little game so easily. She let out a small cough and said, “What are you trying to say?”
“I don’t really have much to say. I’m just trying to befriend you.”
Amused, Verian looked at him. “You are here to attend Wanelle’s wedding but instead of helping her, you’re trying to befriend her enemy? Sir, your pick-up line is so outdated.”
The man kept calm and maintained a polite smile. He took out a gilded name card and handed it over to her. “This is my name card. I hope we will have the opportunity to work together in the future.”
Verian took the name card. Printed on the gilded name card was the name ‘Yanni Quain’. He was the president of the Quain Group.
The Quain Family from North City was a well-known noble family who just emerged in the recent years. Although they were not as reputable as the Fudd Family, they were still considered a wealthy family.
She became more suspicious of Yanni’s purpose for approaching her.
“President Quain, I’m just a damsel in distress. I don’t see how I’ll be able to help you in any way. If there’s nothing else, I’m busy, I’ll make a move first.”
Clenching onto his name card, Verian turned around and walked away. Yanni, who was still behind her said in a calm tone, “Just to let you know, Queena will be my father’s second wife soon. Coincidentally, I am similar to you. I don’t like the Sheen mother and daughter, and you are the person who know the mother and daughter duo best.”
It seemed that Queena Sheen wanted to take advantage of the Quain family.
Verian did not turn back. The corner of her lips curled up. “My feelings toward the Sheen mother and daughter are more than just disliking them. I despise them.”
Yanni stared at Verian’s slender back as his thin lips curled upwards.
…
Verian exited the Hilton Hotel and took a look at the time. It was 7:05 p.m. Today is Little Jelly Bean’s birthday. She had to rush to the bakery to buy a cake. Looking at the time, she had sufficient time.
There was a bakery in the city center. The prices of their cakes were pretty expensive, but they tasted delicious. It was not far away from where Verian was too. To save time, Verian took the shortcut. However, after she entered the avenue, she had a vague feeling that someone was following her. Her heart started to beat faster. She turned around, trying to figure out what happened. Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed across her eyes. It was a muscular man wearing a cap and mask. Then, her nose and mouth were tightly covered with a handkerchief!
“Mm… mm…!”
She struggled hard, but her body became weaker. Her vision started to blur. The last she could remember was the man who drugged her had a narrow space between his eyebrows.
…
It was at the dining table in the Fudd’s mansion.
John, who was sitting in the owner’s seat, looked at the time. It was 7:50 p.m. Enraged, he frowned. “This Verian Mont! She knew that tonight is Jelly Bean’s birthday yet she hasn’t even come home when it’s already so late! Don’t wait for her! What if she’s not back after 12 a.m.? Does it mean that we don’t have to celebrate Jelly Bean’s birthday?”
Little Jelly Bean rested her head on her tiny arms as she asked quietly, “Daddy, when is Monty coming back?”
