As Blaine stepped out of the conference room, Old K who was guarding by the door, approached him and passed him a mobile phone. “Master, Ms. Softie gave you a call just now. Do you want to return her call?”
Blaine creased his brows as he took the phone. After getting along with her for days, he noticed that Softie was not the kind of girl who would take the initiative to call him and out of surprise, she gave him a call today. Since when do pigs fly?
“Forget about it. Let’s head home.”
Since she called her using the landline, she was probably at home. If there was anything to talk about, it would be better to talk face-to-face rather than over the phone.
“Noted.”
…
Meanwhile, as Ruby called Blaine and the call did not get through, she was assuming that Blaine would at least require some time to return to the Kingswood Mansion. Besides, it was past lunchtime now. Butler William and Aunt Heather had gone back to their respective rooms to take a rest. With the dainty servants not around, it was pretty easy for her to avoid their sight and sneak into Blaine’s study room.
As expected, Ruby successfully sneaked into the room without anyone noticing.
However, what made her surprised was that Blaine did not lock the study room. Did this imply that Blaine trusted her and did not suspect her?
She had an instinct that something was not right but this was a rare and golden opportunity for her. Hence, she did not waste much time deliberating. After entering the room, she gently closed the door and locked the door from inside.
However, the moment she locked the door, she unknowingly activated a trap and a few daggers could be seen flying toward her from the opposite wall of the study room. With her nimble movements, she swiftly lowered her body, rolled over to one side and successfully dodged the flying daggers.
As she laid on the ground, her eyes were on the daggers which were firmly lodged to the ground. Every dagger that flew toward her was fatal and was at full speed.
‘Blaine’s study room… as expected, no one can easily intrude this room and it would certainly cost one’s life!
Ruby did not dare to act recklessly. While lying flat to the ground, her vigilant gaze swept across the study room. However, the secret traps were well hidden and it would take her some time to figure out their locations.
She had activated a trap when she opened the door just now. If that was the case, the study desk before her eyes must not be touched either.
The second drawer of the study desk was not locked. It was left ajar and Ruby could see some important documents inside through the slit of the drawer.
Just as she was about to pull out the drawer, the sound of a car engine could be heard from the backyard.
‘Damn it. Blaine’s home!’
Ruby glanced at the daggers on the floor and subsequently looked at herself who was unharmed. Fear surged through her.
In fact, she had ample time to exit the room and pretend that nothing happened. However, she was unable to cover up the crime scene in the study room.
At this very moment, if she were to leave the room, Blaine would have raised more doubts about her but if she did not…
The heavy, steady footsteps grew louder and closer. Ruby’s heart palpitated and her entire body was tense and trembling in fear as if the footsteps were trampling on Ruby’s heart.
The moment the doorknob was turned and the door was opened, Ruby touched one of the traps near the study desk and activated it.
As Blaine entered the room, he saw arrows protruding from the wall simultaneously, aiming directly at Ruby!
Blaine lunged at her and quickly pulled her close into his embrace to protect her. They then fell and rolled onto the ground!
Those sharp arrows were standing firm with the ends lodged onto the sturdy ground.
Ruby was lying in Blaine’s embrace. She slightly tilted her head to the side and looked at the sharp arrows on the ground. Traces of anxiousness and lingering fear flashed across her eyes.
A moment ago, the arrows nearly took her life.
Ruby was naturally able to dodge the arrows with her adept skills. However, if Blaine were to witness her avoid the arrows skillfully, her identity as a spy would be exposed. Hence, she put her life at stake while placing a bet on whether Blaine would save her or not.
Blaine glanced at the mess on the ground. He then shifted his gaze at the girl who was in his embrace. In a calm tone, he questioned her, “Why are you here in my study?”
