It was at the Western border.
Sounds of cicadas chirping filled the surroundings in the early summer afternoon. Greens started spreading across the deserted border. Soldiers were marching measuredly towards the canteen.
It was Friday and there would be a short holiday for the soldiers in the evening. Nines ran toward Blaine and asked, “Leader, we have the evening off today. Shall we go and walk around the town together?”
Blaine gave him a glance and rejected him, “What’s so fun about walking around the town with a grown man like you?”
“Well… what’s wrong with hanging out with a grown man? Is it more fun hanging out with a woman?”
Sitting on the fence, Blaine stepped on the rail. His gaze was fixated on the sunset in the distance.
He coldly replied, “Yes, I’m waiting for my woman for dinner. I don’t have time for you.”
Nines secretly scorned him, “No way. Is Ruby flying here tonight?”
“You don’t believe me?”
“Leader, I’m afraid that woman is just playing with your feelings.”
Blaine kept staring at the scarlet sky and suddenly, a helicopter flew across the sky.
Blaine’s lips curved into a smile as he jumped down from the fence. He grabbed his belt that he took off from his waist and tapped it against his palms. He slightly lifted his brows, signalling Nines to look at the sky.
“She’s here.”
Nines was speechless.
He frowned and turned around to look at the sky skeptically. There was really a helicopter flying in the sky.
Blaine headed straight toward that direction. He patted Nines’ shoulder as he walked past him. “Please excuse me. You should find someone else to drink with you on Friday nights.”
He bragged excitedly.
Nines let out a hum, “Hoes before bros. I was the one who saved your life though!”
Blaine knocked the belt against his palm and said without looking back, “You’ll be dead if you don’t save my life.”
Nines was speechless.
Well, he was the boss so he called the shots.
Nines shouted behind him, “You think you’re a big deal just because you have a girlfriend?”
Blaine simply waved his hand and replied leisurely, “It’s not much of a big deal, but having a girlfriend who flies a helicopter just to see her boyfriend is a big deal.
The corner of Nines’ lips twitched.
He looked at the helicopter gradually landing and a smile spread across his face. He thought Ruby and his leader were a good match.
A normal woman would not fly a helicopter all alone to the Western border just to see her boyfriend.
…
Carrying her backpack on one shoulder, Ruby got off the helicopter and saw the man who was waiting for her not far away.
The dry wind in the early summer brushed past his face.
Blaine lowered his head to look at the watch on his wrist. It was 6:10 pm.
The man lifted his head and looked at her while smiling, “You came right on time for dinner.”
Ruby walked toward him and Blaine opened his arms.
Ruby smiled faintly and reached out to hug him just like an ordinary girl who had not seen her boyfriend for days.
She rested her chin on his broad shoulders and mocked him, “Master Blaine, you smell sweaty.”
After all, he was at the border. Moreover, he had trained the soldiers for one whole day. He had not taken a bath yet so it was normal for him to smell sweaty.
“Do you feel disgusted?” Blaine slightly pushed her away and stared into her eyes softly.
Ruby smiled and shook her head. She pursed her red lips and held Blaine in her arms again, “I missed you a lot.”
After saying that, Ruby lifted her head and gave Blaine a peck on his lips.
Although the kiss was short and quick, it was warm yet seductive at the same time. His heart fluttered.
Ruby was already walking forward with her backpack. Blaine strode forth, followed her, and grabbed her backpack from her shoulder.
He carried her luggage in one hand while wrapping another arm around her waist. They walked toward the dormitory together.
“I departed around one-ish this afternoon so I didn’t eat lunch. What are we going to have for dinner?”
Blaine stared at her with his burning gaze. A teasing look flashed across his face.
