Boyle took care of Cherie for a whole week when she was in the hospital.
He traveled back and forth between Greentown Condominium and the hospital. He was so busy that he did not have time to go back to the law firm.
He stayed by her side every day and calls from his clients kept coming in.
He could not skip work, yet he had to take care of his girlfriend. He ended up bringing his work to the hospital.
Cherie stayed in a normal ward instead of a VIP ward so there were two beds in one ward.
A married woman in her thirties was staying in the bed next to Cherie.
She smiled and said to Cherie when Boyle was busy working, “Young lady, you have such a nice boyfriend. He even brought his work to the ward just to accompany you. I envy you a lot.”
Boyle was sitting not far away from them. He was completely focused on his work. It seemed like he did not hear their conversation.
Cherie said, “Your husband visits you every day as well. He even brought you food.”
“He doesn’t cook it himself. My mom is the one who does all the cooking. He’s just here to flatter me unlike your boyfriend who is sincerely so nice to you. You’ve been here for one week and I noticed he cooks different dishes for you every day. He seems like a quiet person so I couldn’t tell that he’s such a loving person.”
Cherie leaned against her bed. Unconsciously, she looked at Boyle who was sitting not far away from them and asked hesitantly, “But sometimes I’m not sure how much he loves me.”
“How long have you guys been together?”
Slightly embarrassed, Cherie answered, “About two months.”
The lady chuckled, “What? I thought both of you had been together for at least two years if you didn’t tell me this. Young couples nowadays can get such a reliable partner even if they’ve just started dating?”
Cherie blushed and rubbed her neck. “He’s my boyfriend. Isn’t it normal for him to come and take care of me when I’m hospitalized?”
“I bet a lot of young people nowadays are not as responsible as him. Young lady, you’ve found yourself a winner. You must appreciate your boyfriend. I can feel that his feelings for you are sincere. He always stays by your side when you’re asleep. You keep throwing your blanket off when you’re sleeping and he’ll come to cover you up again every night. Even my husband doesn’t do that for me.”
Cherie was an amateur when it came to relationships. Boyle seemed too cold to her. She could feel the passion inside him whenever he hugged her or kissed her but the rest of the time, it felt like she was the one chasing after Boyle.
She felt like she was the one who cared more about their relationship.
“But I keep feeling that his feelings for me are inconsistent. I can’t read his mind.”
The lady laughed faintly and said, “Men usually like to appear stable and steady. They’re not good at expressing themselves or good with their words. What matters is that he treats you nicely. Young lady, you don’t study a person with your eyes but with your heart. Some men may be good with their words but might play computer games at home when you’re here in the hospital. They don’t care about you at all. You have to judge them by their actions. It’s useless if a guy simply talks without action.”
It seemed like Boyle was really very nice to her.
He stayed in the hospital seven days in a row just to take care of her. He cooked for her and held her to the bathroom. He took care of her meticulously and patiently.
Boyle shut his laptop when he was done with work. He walked over to her and asked, “Are you thirsty?”
Cherie shook her head. She looked at his bloodshot eyes and her heart ached. She said, “You haven’t been sleeping well in the hospital these few days. Actually, you don’t have to accompany me every night. You can go back home to sleep and come visit me again in the morning.”
Boyle sat next to her and asked in his deep voice, “If I’m not here, how will you be able to help yourself when you want to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night?”
“I’ll just drink less water at night so I don’t have to go to the bathroom so often.”
Boyle replied in a soft voice, “I’ve been sleeping here for so many nights, I don’t mind staying for a few more.”
Cherie was deeply touched.
The doctor came for his rounds that afternoon.
“Cherie Fudd, you may be discharged after we change your medicine tomorrow.”
Boyle frowned and asked, “The scar on her leg is not fully healed yet. Isn’t it too early for her to go back home tomorrow?”
Cherie thought that her wounds were not that serious anymore. Boyle would have to sacrifice more of his working time to accompany her if she continued staying there. She felt bad seeing him not get any proper rest for one whole week.
“Boyle, I’ll get discharged tomorrow since the doctor says I’m fine. I’m feeling kind of bored staying in the hospital anyway.”
Boyle did not respond. He simply nodded his head at the doctor politely.
