Little Jelly Bean returned to the Fudd family home for the new year.
Heaton realized his daughter was not in a good mood when she returned home for the new year holiday.
"Why do I get the feeling that my Jelly Bean isn't behaving like my daughter anymore ever since she went to university?"
The corner of Verian's mouth twitched as she said, "Where'd you get the feeling from anyway?"
Heaton raised his brows and simply said, "Something's not right with that little brat."
Recently, Cherie would bring Heaton sliced fruits, water and other things just to butter up to him ever since her holidays started.
She had always been a mischievous child however, it felt odd when she would suddenly respect Heaton so much. He could not shake the feeling that his daughter was hiding some unspeakable secrets from him.
Harrison teased, "I'm pretty sure she is just trying to butter up to dad because she's started dating already."
Verian snorted after hearing what Harrison said, "Cough, cough. Hey Heaton, I have something that I need to talk to you about."
Heaton followed Verian into his study upstairs.
"What is it? Why must you speak to me away from our princess?"
Verian took a deep breath and said, "I need you to promise me that you won't get mad."
Heaton grinned as he stared at Verian with a teasing gaze. He said, "It's rare for you to talk to me like this after we had Little Pickle. What is it exactly that warrants such caution?"
Verian was speechless.
Could she actually not act so cautiously when she was going to tell him that his beloved daughter was dating someone now?
Verian cleared her throat and said, "Jelly Bean… well, she's dating someone in school already."
She instinctively looked up to see Heaton's reaction. As expected, his expression turned extremely bitter in an instant.
She knew… he would react this way.
Verian frantically said, "But don't you worry and you don't need to confront Jelly Bean so hastily yet. She isn't a child that would date anyone so carelessly. It's nothing more than normal love. You don't need to overreact to it."
Heaton asked, "When did it start?"
Verian rubbed her neck and said, "It's been… well, quite some time now."
Heaton said, "So, you're saying that she's been dating for a while now?"
Verian let out an awkward cough while she remained speechless.
Verian comforted him, "I only found out about it recently too, you know. She doesn't want us to know because she's afraid of us scolding and controlling her. The truth is Heaton… she's already 18 and it's normal to start dating in university. It's not necessarily a bad thing either."
Heaton squinted his dark eyes and said, "So, she wants you to speak on her behalf?"
Verian frantically shook her head and said, "Of course not."
Heaton held back his anger and remained silent for a brief moment before suddenly asking Verian, "What kind of a person is the man? Have you met him yet?"
"No, nope. I initially wanted to meet him the instant I found out about this but I soon realized it's quite inappropriate for me to do so since we're not discussing marriage yet, so there's no reason for me to meet him."
Heaton frowned immediately as he exclaimed, "Marriage? In his dreams."
Verian was speechless.
Heaton pouted his lips as he felt a little frustrated. He wondered just how could his beloved daughter date some random stranger in secret?
She was only 18 and was still a child. What did she even know about love anyway?
Verian replied cautiously, "Heaton, I don't think you should overreact on this matter. You know she's afraid of you scolding her when she came home this time. Well, regardless of how she behaves, she still respects you because she's afraid of hurting you."
Heaton found the entire situation frustrating and funny as he exclaimed, "So that's why she's been bringing me fruit slices and water to me recently. She's doing all of that not out of respect of her father but she's doing that for another man because she's worried that I'll stop her from dating that b*stard?"
The corner of Verian's mouth twitched.
She thought to herself, 'Yeah, pretty much exactly what you just said.'
However, Heaton was calm and rational. He would not lash out in a fit of uncontrollable rage and question her like other fathers.
He started to reflect on himself after he calmed himself down.
Heaton asked after being extremely puzzled, "Oh Riana, have I not loved her enough?"
