Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 870

Shania was in Philadelphia at the moment.

After Boyle cleared his schedule the following day, he took a flight to Philadelphia.

Shania was a very busy person. She was also extremely arrogant and did not allow Boyle any special privileges nor did she treat him differently just because he was an extremely powerful businessman.

Shania only came to their meeting reluctantly after she settled three of her patients.

Boyle was quiet. Since he was asking someone else for a favor, all he could do was sit and wait patiently outside the coffee shop while sipping a cup of coffee.

Shania was wearing a beige windbreaker and was late for their meeting. "I'm sorry, I just had too many patients."

Her apology sounded cold and very insincere. It sounded like she intended to be late for their meeting.

Boyle replied, "No worries."

Shania scanned the area. Due to her profession, she had a habit of making sure that discussions were absolutely private and secure. "This place isn't safe. Let's go somewhere else."'

However, Boyle said, "Oh, don't worry, I've completely bought out this coffee shop. No one will be allowed in until we're done."

Shania was stunned as she instinctively scanned the area. It was just as he said, not a single customer could be seen even when they were sitting in an open spot. Not to mention, there were no waiters that came over to disturb them.

Shania took a quick look at the man in front of her. He was calm, stable, and very calculative.

It seemed she suddenly understood why Cherie was still unable to recover despite being under treatment for such a long time already.

That was because the man Cherie fell in love with was too excellent. So much so that his appearance alone would cause anyone else to move away and not get in his way.

Boyle said, "If you don't want to drink anything, I think we should begin now."

Shania signaled at a waiter and placed her order, "I'll have a latte, thanks."

After the waiter served her coffee and left, Shania took a sip and said, "Ask whatever you want to know, Mr. Lawson. My time is precious and I can at most stay for half an hour only."

Shania lowered her head and looked at her watch.

Boyle bluntly asked, "When did she start her treatment? How long has it been?"

Shania replied, "Four years ago, I think. It's been a really long time now. However, we haven't seen each other recently and Cherie hasn't come to me as well. I think she's getting better if that’s the case."

"I was the one who picked up when you called her last time. You mentioned that she's stopped her medication for a while. What's up with that?"

Shania replied, "She has depression and requires medication to control her emotions. However, the side effects of antidepressants are quite severe. Long term use will dull her senses and she needs to stay sharp to play the piano. Not to mention, she's a world-famous pianist. She has very high standards for how sensitive her fingertips have to be so she is allowed to not take her medicine if her condition isn't too serious. All patients have their rights too and we as doctors can't force them to do anything they don't want to."

Depression.

That single word felt like a huge boulder had been dropped on Boyle's heart, causing massive waves of emotions to stir and rage in his heart. He was unable to calm down for a really long time.

Boyle's hands were secretly shaking underneath the table.

He had mentally prepared himself before he came over to Philadelphia.

He thought she would only seek help from a psychologist because of other issues and perhaps had just been really unhappy for a long time or was just sad.

However, he had not expected her condition to be so serious that she would be prescribed medication.

Just as Boyle was about to say something, he realized his throat had restricted and no words could escape his mouth. He forced his emotions down and finally spoke in a normal tone, "Is her depression mild or severe?"

Shania seemed calm since she was already used to conditions like these. She replied, "Severe. However, she’s doing much better now than when she first sought help. It's difficult for a patient to know they have depression. However, patients who are depressed will socialize less and be extremely reserved or quiet in front of others. Because of that, it's hard for people around patients to notice their condition because they're always so quiet,"

Boyle's throat twitched as he held onto his shaky hands and asked, "Did she find out about her condition herself or did someone else notice it for her?"

"Neither."

Shania raised her head and stared directly at him after saying that. She asked after noticing how emotional he seemed to be getting, "I'm going to give you a fair bit of disclaimer as a friend. What I'm about to say might be absolutely devastating for you to hear and hard to accept. Are you sure that you really want to continue probing?"
