Holding his mobile phone, Boyle stood on the balcony. His grip on the rail gradually tightened. Looking at the sky turning dark, he spoke to Shania on the other end of the phone, “Hospitalization should be the last choice. Are there any other methods?”
Shania said, “Her condition will worsen if you keep delaying her treatment just because you can’t bear to admit her to a hospital. She’s not an obedient patient. If you want her to receive regular treatment, the best way is to force her to be hospitalized.”
Boyle frowned. He could not bear to do that.
He pursed his thin lips as he pondered for a moment, “Dr. Shania, I have a huge favor to ask.”
“Go ahead.”
“You were Cherie’s psychiatrist when she was receiving treatment in the United States. I hope you can return to become her attending physician.”
Shania chuckled upon hearing the man’s domineering voice from the other side of the phone. He sounded like no negotiations were to be made. She said, “President Lawson, don’t you think you’re a bit too arrogant? You want me to give up everything I have in the United States just to treat a patient?”
Boyle said, “I’ll pay you 10 times what you’re earning now if you come back for Cherie.”
“What if Cherie has fully recovered? She won’t need me by then and I’ll be left in an awkward position. It’ll be hard for me to come back to the United States and start all over again. President Lawson, have you thought of my situation?”
Boyle said, “If you’re willing to come back and become Cherie’s attending physician, I’ll launch a hospital for you.”
Grabbing her phone, Shania was stunned.
She kept silent for quite some time.
Boyle said straightforwardly, “Dr. Shania, you’ve got nothing to lose in this deal.”
Shania laughed and said, “President Lawson, I’m kind of curious. Why do you care so much about an ex-girlfriend who had broken up with you seven years ago? With your status and worth, dating an outstanding girl is just a piece of cake for you. I do admit that Cherie is an excellent lady but she’s suffering from severe depression now. I’m just giving you a word of advice since you’re Hank’s friend.”
Shania knew Cherie for four years and she always knew that the girl was outstanding and pretty. She would become the crowd’s spotlight, especially when playing the piano on stage. That girl was brilliant. However, she was suffering from severe depression and might have suicidal tendencies at any time.
No matter how brilliant a person was, one would be wrecked the moment he or she was diagnosed with depression.
Boyle took a deep breath. His eyes were sparkling with determination as he said, “I love her and only her. I’ll be happy if she’s shining bright and I’ll fix her if she’s wrecked.”
Shania kept quiet for some time.
She always thought that Boyle was a heartless guy before that.
He was the man who turned Cherie into such a lifeless woman.
However, she was starting to understand why Cherie loved this man so much to the extent that she got depressed.
The reason Boyle did not want to hire a local psychiatrist for Cherie was because he wanted to save her face. He wanted to protect her pride and privacy.
Boyle did not want others to know that Cherie had depression.
He did not want Cherie to get hurt even the slightest bit.
Boyle received Shania’s reply through an email in the middle of the night.
He clicked open the email. It was Shania’s work schedule.
Shania agreed to return to treat Cherie.
…
One week later, Cherie went to Mandy’s hometown, Lychee City, to attend her wedding.
Mandy’s hometown was located in a village in Lychee City. Her husband was also a local there. Both of them came from average families but they loved lively parties. Hence, they chose to hold their wedding at home instead of a hotel so that all their neighbors could attend the wedding. It would be more boisterous and fun as well.
As the location was quite far away, Cherie arrived at Lychee City the day before the wedding.
She took the high-speed rail to Lychee City. Mandy and her husband picked her up from the station after that.
Natalie and Joy arrived at the station at 8:30 p.m.
Cherie arrived half an hour earlier than them, so she waited for them with Mandy in the car.
Mandy smiled as she introduced Cherie to her husband, “This is Cherie Fudd. We went to college together and she was my roommate as well. She’s the pianist that I always talk about. She’s amazing.”
Mandy’s husband looked at Cherie in awe as he said, “Oh, you’re Momo? I’ve heard a lot about you. Mandy tells me how good you are in playing the piano all the time. I heard you can play the piano very well.”
Cherie let out a faint smile. She was not good at talking to strangers, so she simply nodded her head and said, “Thank you.”
Mandy looked at her watch. It was already 8:35 p.m. She said, “Natalie and Joy should be here by now. Cher, you haven’t had dinner, right? Are you hungry?”
“I’m fine. I’m not really hungry.”
“Great. We’ll head to the restaurant after picking up Natalie and Joy then.”
Soon after, Natalie and Joy arrived and entered the car.
Joy said as soon as they got into the car, “Oh my, we’ve been looking for you guys everywhere. It’s too dark and we couldn’t see your car plate number.”
Mandy said, “Honey, let’s go to the restaurant now. I bet all of you are hungry.”
Joy caressed her stomach and smiled at Cherie and Natalie as she said, “Our tummies had been grumbling since just now. Let’s go and have dinner. I can’t wait.”
