Chapter 105 

Time passed quickly, and Maxius returned on Friday with a few half–finished laptops he had personally supervised. He then sent them to Xosa’s Northill Factory for the final assembly. As Mikayla’s wedding had been postponed, Maxius stayed over and personally supervised the production. In addition, since the quantity was low, it should be done quickly, and Maxius could cart the laptops back to Xosa when he headed back. Maxius communicated ahead with the Northill Factory in hopes they could work overtime to finish those laptops by Monday. The finalized timeline was the following Monday, whereby the department could start test–running the new laptops. It could be said that Maxius made the biggest contribution to this project. There would have been delays if he hadn’t personally supervised everything. 

It was a sunny day that weekend, with the sun shining brightly. The rush that had enveloped the city seemed to have gradually gone down. 

Mikayla had been resting her legs for the past few days and could walk without issues for a short while. It was just that she couldn’t stand or walk for too long. Although Carlos would take advantage of being touch–feely with her whenever he gave her a massage, he never crossed the line. Plus, Mikayla was used to it by now. 

However, recently, Carlos seemed to be getting busier at Xosa. At first, he accompanied her all day which soon turned into three times a day on weekdays and only in the mornings and evenings on weekends. It seemed like he was busy all day long. Mikayla didn’t know what Carlos was up to, but she didn’t question Carlos about it. She only checked if he needed any help for the upcoming wedding, but even then, Carlos didn’t let her get involved. He kept his promise that he wouldn’t trouble her with anything while she recuperated. As it was, it wasn’t convenient for her to move around now, so Carlos requested her to wait patiently! Hearing that, Mikayla could only give up. However, when she explicitly told Carlos not to go overboard or extravagant with the wedding prep, he refused to answer her. As a soon–to–be bride, she knew nothing about her own wedding! 

Mikayla was curious about the wedding Carlos had planned for them. In truth, Mikayla only had one wish for her wedding, which was for someone to treat her sincerely. She would be fine even if there weren’t a grand ceremony. The most important thing was that they treated each other with heartfelt sincerity. 

In between all these, Mikayla checked in with Maxius to see whether he needed her help, as he had mentioned earlier that they couldn’t slack off even on the pilot batch of laptops to be tested. It was why Maxius had wanted to stay and supervise the process at Northill. However, Maxius rejected Mikayla’s offer for help and told her to rest properly at home and that he would need her support later on. Hence, this weekend became a long and boring one for Mikayla. Besides staying home and watching TV for entertainment, she devoted most of her time to work. After all, Mikayla could not stand being idle. 

Just like that, Mikayla’s hard–to–come–by two–day vacation ended. Leisure time was over, and a new cycle of workdays begun. 

Mikayla had just clocked in at work when she bumped into Maxius, Eric, and Taylor, each holding two laptops. Mikayla wanted to help, but Maxius stopped her. He blocked Mikayla’s movement with a gentle smile on his face. “Women don’t have to share a man’s load.” 

Eric and Taylor nodded in agreement. Excitement was clear in their expression. After all, these were the fruits of their one–month labor. 

Seeing that they didn’t need help, Mikayla gave up and walked toward the department with them, where Eric and Taylor started handing out laptops to everyone. 

Mikayla stood in the middle of the office and announced gravely, “This laptop is exclusively for the employees in our department. Grab it from me first thing in the morning when you come to work and return it to me after work every day. You are not allowed to take it out of the department! It’s considered a company secret and should remain confidential. Anyone who leaks it will face legal prosecution!” Mikayla stressed the gravity of this matter. Although she knew her team members‘ inherent nature after working together for some time, there were some things that she needed to give fair warning first. She continued, “Every day, you record and test the vulnerabilities of your laptops and what needs to be optimized. Then we’ll revise and find a way to resolve it!” Mikayla always had an indescribable aura at work, which was intimidating! A new product’s research and development was bound to be unstable initially and could only achieve perfection through continuous improvement. 

“Understood, Ms. Salvatore!” The department employees replied in unison. 

After the announcement, Mikayla asked Quinnlyn to make her a cup of coffee and went into the office with her laptop. 

The new laptop was developed through their joint effort and broke through the existing technology. Using previous designs as a basis, they basically made the laptop light and thin. The only thing left was to test it out and check if the performance had enhanced or… 

For several days, the marketing department’s Team B members were immersed in finding and resolving problems. Moreover, the company also specially assigned two security guards to stand guard at the entrance of the marketing department Team B for 24 hours a day. No one except Team B’s members could enter, of course, with only one exception. Carlos, who delivered meals daily, had been given special access could enter. 

Every time Carlos entered the department as a delivery man, the single female employees were tempted to find a boyfriend, too. They hoped that someone would be considerate of them and that they didn’t have to suffer through eating unhealthy fast food daily. These days, Mikayla was also troubled by the looks she could feel she was getting from female colleagues every time she went upstairs to make a report. This made her further understand how popular Carlos was!

So, when Carlos came to deliver food again, Mikayla sat at her desk and stated gravely, “Carlos, my legs are much better now. How about I make do with lunch at the company?” What started as a firm request ended with a tone that suggested it was negotiable.
