Mikayla also liked shiny diamonds and jewelry and usually went shopping with Juliet to buy different luxury items to go with different clothes. Jorge and Sylvia would also frequently buy some for her. They never made Mikayla feel the lack of money so she would buy whatever hit her fancy. However, she was not a spendthrift. She would always check out various diamond and jewelry stores to determine whether they were worth buying. She was touched that Carlos wanted to buy the necklace for her, but more than that she felt pained over the money he was throwing away over it. After all, it wasn’t a small amount of money! Such an expensive thing could not be worn for everyday use, and it would be vulgar to resell it straight after buying it. In short, besides being touched, she didn’t think the necklace was worth buying. She didn’t feel sad over Carlos not winning the bid. 

“Wait for me here. I’ll be right back!” Carlos lowered his head and whispered to her. 

“Alright.” Mikayla smiled. 

So, Carlos and Jaxon followed the auctioneer backstage. 

Winona snorted coldly and sneered, “It seems that you are marrying a pauper!” ‘How nice to be able to say those words to her! Carlos was outclassed by Jaxon and I managed to trample Mikayla under my foot. What a joy… Besides, those people were congratulating and praising me just now. Today has been a spectacular day for me, thought Winona. 

Mikayla sat quietly, waiting for Carlos‘ return. The current her had no wish to argue with Winona. She was well aware that while Carlos had lost the bid, Jaxon wasn’t likely to be able to afford the necklace either. ‘Although Jaxon is an adult and has control over his finances, the economic sovereignty of the Lindstrom family is still in Hugo’s hands. But Hugo is a businessman. There is no way he’ll agree to spend 87 million dollars to buy a necklace for his daughter–in–law. Hell, even he won’t wear anything that expensive. Mikayla’s silence emboldened Winona into acting more arrogantly. She lifted her hair, revealing her smooth neck, and mocked, “Mikayla, if you want, I can let you borrow the necklace for two days…” 

Mikayla pursed her lips, stood up, and smiled at Winona. “Okay!” 

Winona was stunned. Seeing Mikayla’s smile puzzled her. 

“Thank you for that!” mumbled Mikayla indifferently. 

However, Winona was under the impression that Mikayla’s expression had turned sullen. ‘How shameless to simply accept someone else’s things so casually, mocked Winona inwardly. 

“Why are you looking at me like that? Were you just teasing me just now?” Mikayla asked Winona frankly while looking at someone else. 

Following Mikayla’s line of sight, Winona saw Jaxon who came out first from backstage looking unpleasant. Winona didn’t overthink about it but rather walked over and took Jaxon’s arm. Although Winona wasn’t that far away from Mikayla, she still loudly said, “I’d love to lend it to you, Mikayla. Come and get it whenever you want to.” ‘Let’s see how embarrassed it will be for Mikayla when she asks me for the necklace,’ sneered Winona inwardly. 

While Winona was still pretending to be nice, Jaxon on the other hand questioned Mikayla harshly. “Mikayla, you asked Carlos to do this, right?” 

“What do you mean?” asked Mikayla, not having a clue as to what Jaxon meant. 

“Hmph!” Jaxon shouted at Winona, “Let’s go.” 

Winona, following behind Jaxon, was also confused. ‘What did Carlos do to piss off the usually calm Jaxon?‘ she wondered. 

“Mika!” Carlos called Mikayla affectionately as he walked towards her. Compared with Jaxon, Carlos looked quite cheery. 

“Hey!” Mikayla replied. “Let’s leave too.” 

After the auction, the venue was nearly empty by now. 

Taking her hand, Carlos kissed it again and said, “I asked the auctioneer to send the necklace directly to your home. Remember to sign for it.” 

“What?” shouted Mikayla in surprise as she pulled back her hand and wondered, ‘Did he finally buy it again? How much did he pay for it? No wonder Jaxon questioned me with a livid expression.’ 

“Alright! Don’t worry, it didn’t cost that much!” Carlos pulled Mikayla’s hands and smiled cheekily. 

Mikayla raised her delicate face, looking at Carlos as she asked, “What happened backstage?” 

“I’ll tell you later!” replied Carlos mysteriously. 

Mikayla didn’t ask more and followed Carlos outside. Unfortunately, the door was blocked by reporters, and those reporters had surrounded Jaxon and Winona who left before them. The reporters‘ questions all revolved around the same topic. “Mr. Lindstrom, why did you suddenly give up the necklace you bid for? Is it because you didn’t have enough money? Or are there other reasons?”

The reporter’s questions were each more brutal than the previous ones. Winona stood beside Jaxon, her expression twisted. She knew from the reporter that Jaxon had given up the necklace. She tried hard to maintain the smile on her face, refusing to show any other emotions.
