Jaxon walked into the study and closed the door.
He took out his phone and dialed a number he'd saved for long yet never actually called before.
Brantley's voice came from the other end. "Hello, who am I speaking to?"
Upon hearing that, Jaxon concluded that Brantley didn't even save his phone number. Jaxon considered hanging up the phone but then quit the thought. "This is Jaxon speaking."
Brantley was briefly stunned before he spoke, "What's up?"
"Is it convenient for you to talk on the phone now? I mean, is there anyone next to you?" Jaxon loosened his tie.
"What do you want to say?" Brantley was driving home alone after seeing off Giovanni and his daughter.
"Did you go to Lugrea Restaurant on East Mountain Road for dinner today? Mikayla saw you having dinner with Giovanni and his daughter," Jaxon muttered.
Brantley remained silent, so Jaxon continued, "As Juliet's best friend, Mikayla won't keep it from Juliet. Be careful!"
"Why are you telling me this?" Brantley was all too aware that their brotherly rivalry continued behind closed doors although they avoided open conflict. Brantley thought, 'He worries that I'm going to take the family assets away. How can Jaxon possibly be so kind to me?'
"Brantley, we are brothers! Compared with those outsiders, we're blood-related, right?" Jaxon changed to a comfortable position, sitting on the couch. "I tell you this to do you a favor. I hope you can help me when I'm in trouble in the future."
Brantley sneered, "Those who are not my brother would also tell me when they can do me a favor."
"Brantley, you must be kidding. Remember to save my number. We are family. I don't want to hear you ask who is speaking next time when I call you."
Jaxon had a hunch that one day he might ask Brantley for help.
After ending the call, Jaxon went back to his bedroom, took a shower, and went to bed early.
The dinner with Mikayla was very unpleasant. Since Mikayla didn't want him to invite her to dinner alone again, his next step was to get Mikayla to ask him out voluntarily.
When Winona returned to the bedroom, she saw Jaxon asleep on the bed.
''He must be tired after a hard day's work,' she thought.
Winona was ready to take a shower and then go to sleep. The doctor told her that going to bed early would be good for the fetus.
Accidentally, she dropped Jaxon's suit hanging on the chair onto the floor.
Winona squatted down, picked up the suit, and dusted it. She caught a glimpse of an invoice in the suit pocket.
Somehow, she removed the invoice and unfolded it.
Winona then looked at the man sleeping on the bed.
She realized those listed on the invoice from Lugrea Restaurant were that woman's favorite dishes.
She knew everything about her rival's hobbies because she loved Jaxon so much.
Winona grabbed Jaxon's suit tightly so as not to drop it accidentally. After calming herself down, she folded the invoice and carefully put it back. She took a shower and went to bed very gently for fear of waking Jaxon up.
*****
After Mikayla drank two cups of hot milk with brown sugar, her stomach felt warm. She didn't know what Dexter had added to it as it felt so nice and different from what she had drunk before.
She went upstairs with Carlos.
Standing at the door, Mikayla said to Carlos, "How about we sleep separately for a few days until my period is gone?"
She was afraid that both of them would have a hard time if they slept in the same bed and got turned on.
