Chapter 17 

Upon hearing Jorge’s words, Mikayla frowned and put down her fork 

“Carlos was really impressive back in Nosa. I didn’t have much interaction with him, but even from a few meetings, I could tell he was not an ordinary guy. I thought he’d take over the Ludwig family business, but instead, he suddenly joins the military” Jorge reminisced, his face growing serious. 

“Dad, are you saying that his move to the military base is not that simple? Mikayla knew little about these things. After all. she only cared about Jaxon before. 

Jorge nodded 

“Dad, if Carlos is so excellent, marrying him would be a win for us. Mikayla served Jorge some food and continued. “If you have any doubts, you can check them out when both families meet in the evening after tomorrow.” 

Jorge gave in as usual. He wondered now if it had been wise to use her so independently. 

“Dad, when will Huxley report to the company?” Mikayla asked 

“The day after tomorrow. Jorge replied, taking a sip of his soup. 

Then I’ll come to the office tomorrow. Mikayla decided. 

The next morning. Mikayla was woken by a call from Juliet before dawn. 

“Mikayla, you’re not up yet?” Juliet exclaimed excitedly. 

Mikayla held the phone away from her ear, frowning 

“Go read today’s paper! My gosh, Mikayla! You’re grabbing the headlines!” Juliet continued without pausing 

“What’s going on Mikayla asked, now fully awake. 

Just check it yourself,” Juliet replied. 

Then Mikayla heard someone calling Juliet in the Background before the call ended 

After washing up, Mikayla went downstairs and picked up the newspaper. She had expected some mention of her and Carlos, but she was shocked to see that two–thirds of the newspapers in Xosa were covering it, while the Lindstrom family’s wedding only got a small section. 

One wrote: The son of the Ludwig family is back and proposed in public to the daughter of the Salvatore family!

There were all kinds of praises and flattery for their union. Mikayla knew only Carlos could do such things. 

The next second, her phone rang. It was an unknown number. Although she deleted the name, she knew the caller, perhaps 

her good memory, or she remembered the number too Hell. She amwered, “Hello” 

You dad thas, night. Mikayla! To get back at me Jaxon’s voice was as gentle as usual, but it only made Mikayla frown. Sure enough, it was about the newspapers this morning The Lindstron family must be furious right now. They could have made 

sradioen with their marriage allianor and boosted Lindstrom Choup’s stock. Instead, Mikayla and Carlos messed up their plans

Thinking of his angry face, Mikayla couldn’t help but feel a surge of satisfaction. ‘Carlos really is something. He helped me a lot without even trying 

“Jaxon, I finally understand why you hooked up with Winona, Mikayla mocked. She couldn’t believe she had said something so cutting. “You’re both so full of yourselves! Then she hung up. 

Hearing the beeping. Jaxon stared at the picture of Carlos‘ proposal in the newspaper. His expression turned slightly ferocious, as if he was a venomous snake, ready to strike. 

In the next room, Winona’s eyes widened as she saw the news showcasing the couple’s intimacy. There was even a scene where Jaxon looked at Mikayla affectionately. Winona thought she was the protagonist yesterday, but now she had become a backdrop. Worse of all, she was served as a foil to Mikayla. ‘Great just great, Mikayla! Your gift has really ticked me off! Winona fumed inwardly. 

Today was Mikayla’s first day at work. She wore a black–and–white business suit that stood out against her tanned skin. Her curly hair was tied into a high ponytail, making her look more lively and elegant. 

“Dad” Mikayla–called out to Jorge, who was waiting in the living room. 

“It’s your first day at work today. Let me give you a ride,” Jorge offered.
