Chapter 46 

The temperature dipped to about 21 degrees Fahrenheit that night, making the cold even more biting. A black car rolled up to a private mansion, owned by the Salvatore family. This wasn’t as old as the Salvatore manor but a place Mikayla’s great–grandfather had bought, and it became precious over time. Logan’s family moved in after leaving the manor 

When Mikayla’s family trudged into the living room, braving the cold, they found Logan’s family chatting and laughing, not even greeting them. 

“Jaxon’s parents were thrilled to hear I’m having a boy. Right, Jaxon?” Winona said with a sparkle in her eyes. It was unclear if she was saying this for Mikayla’s benefit 

“That’s right. My parents are very happy. Actually, they’d love the baby whether it’s a boy or a girl Jason replied, sitting next to Winona with his back to the entrance. 

“Jorge, you’re here! Why so late You kept everyone waiting Logan remarked with a slightly disapproving glance. He already had issues with Jorge arranging that job for his son and didn’t really want to invite them. But when Winona insisted in front of his son–in–law, he couldn’t argue too much 

Jorge look off Sylvia’s shawl and smiled, “Sorry, we got delayed on the way? 

Mikayla glanced at the large clock in the living room and couldn’t help thinking, ‘It isn’t even six o’clock. Visiting only a few times before, she looked around more attentively. The furnishings have changed from what I remember. Uncle Lagan must have done more remodeling They really have much money, she mused. 

From the sidelines, Mildred felt a pang of jealousy as she watched Jorge being so attentive to Sylvia. It reminded her of Logan’s sharp look the last time she mentioned Sylvia during a drive, after which Logan had slept in his study. Later, Huxley told her to stop dwelling on the past 

She couldn’t help it. Sylvia and Logan’s past was a thom she couldn’t remove. Why does Sylvia still have Jorge’s undying affection even after everything? Isn’t she a woman Logan discarded! I gave Logan a son and daughter but never got his affection: Mildred thought bitterly. She suppressed her anger and said softly, “You all carry on chatting. I’ll ask the kitchen to serve the dishes.” 

“Mikayla, come sit here. Winona said, patting the seat next to her. Her tone had lost the overbearing edge it had on the phone. She held onto Jaxon, marking her territory. 

Seeing how quickly Winona’s moods could change, Mikayla thought. She could’ve been an Oscars contender. It’s a pity her talent goes untapped: 

She chose to sit alone and said, “I’ve had some bad luck lately. I’m afraid I might bring bad fortune to your unborn child!” If acting was required. she would play along 

Winona was stunned. Others might miss the underlying meaning in Mikayla’s words, but she caught it. She ke 

kept her emotions in check and said, “Mikayla, you can really joke. I still have to thank you for your help back then. Without it, Jaxon and I wouldn’t be together. She thought, ‘So what if she knew? There was no evidence, and the person involved was dead. I’ll never admit it” 

“No big deal. If I hadn’t helped you two, I wouldn’t have met someone as amazing as Carlos, Mikayla responded, her eyes shining with happiness. 

From the moment Mikayla sat on the couch opposite him. Jason’s gaze hadn’t left her. Hearing her words, he clenched his fists tightly, thinking. ‘More amazing than me? Carlos? I don’t think so. How can a man who hasn’t even returned to Xosa be better than me?‘ 

Sensing Jaxon’s shift in attitude, Winona forced a smile. “Congrats, Mikayla, on finding such a great match so quickly.” 

Thanks! Remember to give me a big gift when the time comes, Mikayla replied cheerfully. 

Winona was caught off guard by Mikayla’s willingness to play along and even ask for a big gift. But she had to stay composed with Jaxon present.

Meanwhile, Jorge and Logan engaged in casual conversation. Despite their conflict, they were still brothers, and things hadn’t completely soured. Logan wanted Huxley to seize Salvatore Group from Jorge. Though he disliked Jorge and Mikayla, he kept his feelings hidden 

Logan listened as Jorge shared his views, his gaze drifting to the beauty next to Jorge. Sylvia, even in her early forties, still looked youthful and charming 

Noticing Logan’s intense gaze, Sylvia glanced at him briefly before turning away, her hand slipping into Jorge’s arm. Jorge, speaking confidently, took her hand impulsively and smiled tenderly. “Are you feeling bored? Why not join Mikayla over there?” he suggested, 

Sylvia shook her head slightly. Years of habit made her stay close to Jorge whenever they went out, expecially with Logan around. Memories from ten years ago still lingered in her mind. Jorge tightened his grip on Sylvia’s hand to reassure her, a seemingly casual gesture that took on a different meaning in Logan’s eyes. 

Mildred walked from the kitchen and saw Sylvia and Logan exchange glances. Sure enough! Sylvia has Jorge’s love but still wants Logan’s too.” Mildred cursed silently.

“Dinner is served, Mildred announced, instructing a servant, “Go upstairs and call the young sir down. 

“Yes” replied the servant 

“Recently, Huxley returned from the company and went straight to the study. He brought corporate issues to me to discuss because he worried he woddn’t handle them well. I haven’t been involved in years. How can I teach him? Logan said casually, though his words were intended to praise Huxley. 

Huxley came downstairs, saw Mikayla’s family of three, and just greeted, “Uncle Jorge,” 

“Didn’t you see Aunt Sylvia and Mikayla?” Mildred chastised.
