"Be careful. I'll step in if I need to."
"But most of the time, you can't, right?"
There were too many hunters around. If Logan's identity got exposed, things would get even messier.
"Don't worry, I can handle myself."
At worst, she had her secret weapon. Sophie glanced at the watch on her wrist. The whole venue was jammed with signal blockers. The watch James had given her had a one-touch alarm system, but it needed a signal to work.
She'd been running around the second floor not just to buy Sandy some time but also to find a signal and locate Vanessa. Now that she knew Vanessa was on the fifth floor, there was no point in staying on the second.
"Thanks, I owe you one."
Logan tossed a small folding knife into her hand, his voice cool. "Just don't forget it."
With that, Logan casually slung a socialite over his shoulder.
Sophie frowned. "What about them...?"
"Relax, I'm just putting on a show. I'll stash them somewhere safe soon."
"Alright!"
Sophie slipped off her shoes and sprinted towards the third floor. She'd been conserving her energy, but now, with the folding knife for protection and the combat skills Colby had drilled into her, she might just have an edge in this twisted game.
As she ran upstairs, her black dress helped her blend in, and the hunters paid her little mind. Just as Logan said, they were mostly causing chaos and targeting other socialites. Vanessa's real aim was to push Sophie and the others to the edge.
Vanessa wanted to drag this out, ensuring the game didn't end too soon.

Enjoying the story, to much victimising Sophie, they could at least try to target others. Hope at some point Sophie comes clean and forgives James and explain her view of loving the boy James was. Just so they both learn and move on. Really needs to be some consequences for the instigators instead of being let go. Sandy needs to see Vanessa is using her as a cover, and Sandy needs to wake up to herself, or be held responsible by her father for alienating the people she was supposed to make contact with. Hope the reporter brother is keeping an eye on what Vanessa and Odie are up to, and that he has he’s own justice in store. Hope he becomes like Reese a good partner. Hope James lives and finds he’s HEA. Need to put Nicole in prison , no release and several lifetimes , with all the evidence on the crimes she’s committed just to get her out of the way guilt free. More about what’s up with Gordon....
