In the afternoon, Sophie was on edge, waiting for a text from Jenna. She clutched her phone like a lifeline, pacing up and down the second-floor hallway.

"Ms. Sophie, everything alright?" the housekeeper asked, glancing at her with a hint of curiosity. From earlier that day, Sophie had been restlessly circling the floor, worry written all over her face.

"Oh, nothing," Sophie shrugged it off with a little white lie. "Just stretching my legs."

The housekeeper nodded, suggesting, "If you're looking for a walk, the back garden's a nice spot. Mr. Gordon won't be home for dinner tonight, so feel free to eat whenever. If there's anything special you fancy, just let me know, and I'll have it made."

"My brother's not home tonight? Is he tied up with work?" Sophie questioned. Normally, her brother's team handled his business affairs, and it was unusual for him to skip dinner at home.

"I'm not sure, Miss. I'll let the kitchen know," the housekeeper replied, quickly shifting away from the topic. Sophie's curiosity only grew as the housekeeper left.

Something's definitely fishy here!

Quietly, Sophie tiptoed downstairs. In the kitchen, she overheard two maids chatting while preparing dinner. "I heard Mr. Gordon's meeting up with Emmalee tonight. They haven't caught up since college, right?"

"Didn't Emmalee have a thing for him back then? Did they ever date?" one asked.

Sophie froze outside the kitchen, straining to catch every word.

College? Her brother had a girlfriend in college? How did she not know this?

Eager to learn more, Sophie caught snippets of their chat: "Seems like Mr. Gordon and Emmalee are meeting at the Grand Hotel. I'm dying to know what their deal is."
