"I heard she disappeared at her engagement party. Didn't she run off with Mr. Gordon?"
"Ugh, just our luck to bump into her here."
High society is a strict hierarchy, and anyone with a hint of scandal is quickly shunned. A fallen heiress like Sophie gets blacklisted in no time by the social elite. If it weren't for her past marriage to James and Colby's protection, they wouldn't even consider being in the same room with her.
"Ms. Sophie's reputation isn't exactly stellar," Odie said.
As Sophie overheard the comment, a chill ran down her spine. The crowd's attention shifted to Odie, with several business moguls eager to make his acquaintance grabbing their champagne and heading his way, only to be intercepted by Jonah.
Odie started chatting with Sophie, sparking immediate discontent among the onlookers.
"Look at her, cozying up to Mr. Odie now."
"Sophie’s just riding on her looks, thinking every man should fall for her."
"Seriously, men always fall for the pretty faces. Mr. Odie's engaged to Ms. Sandy. If Sophie thinks she can snag him, she better watch out for the Pollards!"
Their whispers reached Sophie's ears, and it was clear Odie heard them too. He raised an eyebrow and remarked, "Hear that? They’re not exactly rooting for you."

Enjoying the story, to much victimising Sophie, they could at least try to target others. Hope at some point Sophie comes clean and forgives James and explain her view of loving the boy James was. Just so they both learn and move on. Really needs to be some consequences for the instigators instead of being let go. Sandy needs to see Vanessa is using her as a cover, and Sandy needs to wake up to herself, or be held responsible by her father for alienating the people she was supposed to make contact with. Hope the reporter brother is keeping an eye on what Vanessa and Odie are up to, and that he has he’s own justice in store. Hope he becomes like Reese a good partner. Hope James lives and finds he’s HEA. Need to put Nicole in prison , no release and several lifetimes , with all the evidence on the crimes she’s committed just to get her out of the way guilt free. More about what’s up with Gordon....
