Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James) novel Chapter 997

Rick bolted downstairs as he spoke.

Sophie walked into the house and, sure enough, saw a bunch of doctors huddled around Gordon's bed, desperately trying to save him. Gordon's eyes were half-closed, and he looked out of it. Sophie spotted a pill in one of the doctor's hands while they whispered urgently among themselves.

Seeing this, Sophie stepped forward and demanded, "What's that pill? You said it could save him, so why aren't you using it?"

The doctors exchanged uneasy glances, but nobody answered.

Just then, Rick dragged William into the room. Upon seeing the pill, Rick said, "Mrs. Costello, the pill works, but the man himself said he won't take it."

"Won't take the medicine?" Sophie frowned. "Does it have side effects?"

"No."

"Or is it not the right treatment?"

"That's not it either."

"Then why won't he take it?" Sophie snapped, her frustration bubbling over as she moved to force the pill into Gordon's mouth.

But at that moment, Gordon's eyes fluttered open. He might have been weak, but he still had a surprising amount of strength. He grabbed Sophie's wrist and murmured, "Sophie... put it down."

Sophie froze, momentarily thinking she misheard.

She leaned closer and asked, "Mr. Gordon, what did you say?"

"...I said, put it down gently."

Gordon's eyes cleared, and his tone softened. Sophie, thinking the pill must be something incredibly precious, carefully placed it on the nearby cabinet.

"...Sorry, Mr. Gordon. I overstepped."
