Seeing her son's expectant expression, Nicole could only nod and reply, "Yeah."
After Nicole comforted Hayden, she took her son back to rest. However, she couldn't fall asleep. She could remember what Benedict had said as soon as she closed her eyes.
Would my mother do such a thing?
A quick glimmer of denial surfaced in Nicole's mind.
Mom is a weak person by nature, so she won't have the guts to go on a hit and run! William is the only one who knows the truth about what happened back then. If I can't start investigating him, I must find the person who sent the photo. I was halfway through the investigation, but it paused because of the news abroad. Now, I can continue my study. Currently, I have to find out the child who delivered the letter. The person who helped provide the letter should still remember the sender, right?
…
Nicole did not sleep well because she was preoccupied. As such, she woke up at five in the morning. When she opened her eyes, the sky was still dark, and it was as if it was going to rain.
On the other hand, Hayden was still sleeping soundly on the side. She glanced outside and withdrew her gaze immediately to size him up slowly.
She didn't have many wishes; she just wanted herself and her son to be safe and sound. She remembered what had happened earlier.
If my mom did it, I would have a legitimate reason to leave Colton. There are too many women around who adore him, and they all have power and influence. If we had to confront each other, I don't think Hayden and I would be alive.
After thinking for a while, Nicole got out of bed and went downstairs to prepare breakfast. However, when she arrived downstairs, she heard the doorbell ring.
The doorbell rang just once and stopped. Frowning, Nicole reached up to massage her temples.
I must have heard it wrong. I was in a daze, so maybe I was having a hallucination.
Despite the thought, Nicole still walked toward the door. Through the surveillance, she found that it was Colton.
Nicole was slightly surprised to see him.
It is early in the morning, and it is not even six. Why is Colton here?
After a slight hesitation, she still opened the door for him.
Colton stood outside. The weather was gloomy, and the sky was filled with dark clouds. When she opened the door, the air out instantly rushed in, and she could feel a surge of coldness.
Nicole stood in the doorway and asked curiously, "Why did you come over so early today?"
Colton didn't seem to have slept well, as his dark eyes had a hint of tiredness to it. Although he stood straight, it was tainted with a tinge of fatigue.
"I can't sleep because I miss you." Colton slowly spoke. It was as if he deliberately suppressed his voice, which made it sound hoarse.
However, Nicole felt sickened by his words, so she touched her arm and turned sideways. "Come in and talk."
He is already here, so I can't give him the boot.
Meanwhile, Colton was not embarrassed and walked straight in.
The man wore a beige sweater and a pair of loose black trousers underneath. He looked casual and lacked his usual seriousness.
Nicole then closed the door. She was wearing sky-blue pajamas, and it was matching her son's. She also had messy hair with a soft pair of slippers on her feet.
"Hayden is still upstairs sleeping. It's still early. Why are you here, President Gardner?" Nicole asked as she walked to the kitchen.
It's still early, so I think I'll cook some chowder. Hayden can have it when he wakes up.

The readers' comments on the novel: Right Person, Wrong Time
What a waste of reading! This could have been an excellent novel if it hadn't skipped chapters after 531 and then everything is garbled. Get your act together if you still want a reading audience!!!...
