Nicole cast a glance at Colton, thinking he was a truly witty person. However, she was still perplexed as to why, despite all of his crimes, William had never been apprehended.
Thus, she looked at Colton and asked, "Since William owes so many debts, why has no one ever asked him for payment?"
With a cold expression, Colton answered, "Queenie was previously my fiancée. With the Gardner Family backing the Andersons, of course the creditors didn't dare to do anything."
Colton was aware of this as well, but he had never wanted to bother himself with it before. However, after learning that Queenie was not the one who saved him five years ago, he had no intention of protecting the Anderson Family anymore.
For unknown reasons, Nicole felt a tinge of displeasure when she heard Colton refer to Queenie as his fiancée.
As a result, she lowered her gaze and went silent.
Seeing her disappointed look, Colton smiled as he took a step closer to her and placed his hand over her shoulder, saying, "I was drugged five years ago and lost all rationality. Queenie was lying beside me when I woke up, so I naturally took her as the one who had saved me."
He then came to a halt, lowering his head to look at Nicole before continuing, "I allowed Queenie to be my fiancée because I thought she gave me her first sexual experience five years ago. If I had known earlier that it was you..."
Nicole could tell by his mischievous tone of voice that nothing decent would come out of his mouth.
Hence, she quickly interrupted, "That's enough. You don't have to continue further; I understand."
She moved quickly forward as she spoke, but her red ears were visible, indicating her shyness.
…
The second day, William, who was feeling uneasy, paced around the house. After much deliberation, he was still unwilling to take the risk, as he would be dead meat if Colton truly had something unfavorable to William in his hands.
Though William did not say anything, Queenie and Lydia were both terrified as well since both of them knew the truth.
Queenie was so restless that her body remained stiff. It took her so much difficulty to become Mrs. Gardner, and she was indignant that this had happened now.
Just as three of them were having their own thoughts thinking about themselves, a group of police came knocking on the door. When the door was opened, they immediately took out an arrest warrant and handcuffed William.
"Someone reported you to us. You must now follow us to the police station."
At that point, William was frightened to death. What Colton said is true! He must have some proof, or else the cops would not have arrived so quickly!
"I… I…" He became speechless as his anxiety increased.
Queenie was panicking too. She rushed up to them and grabbed William with all her might. Then, she raised her gaze and asked pityingly of the cops, "Have you got the wrong person? My father did nothing wrong. How could you arrest him?"
To that, the police straightforwardly responded, "Someone reported you and provided us with full proof."
That rendered William even more nervous. He quickly looked at Queenie and grabbed her sleeve, much like a drowning man clutching on to the last straw, and said, "Look for President Gardner, Queenie. Look for him right now!"
In the end, a pale Queenie could only see William being taken away forcibly, unable to do anything.
It was Lydia's first time witnessing such a scene as well, and she couldn't react to what was happening.
Queenie turned her head and looked at Lydia, the former's face ashen and her gaze filled with anxiety. "Mom, what are we going to do now? The Gardners would never let us off if Dad's crime was proven!" Queenie said with a sobbing voice.
Lydia was nervous too, but she could not come out with any idea. Staring at Queenie, she said regretfully, "You're too foolish, Queenie! You should have discussed this with me before doing such a thing!"
Queenie had not anticipated things turning out this way. When confronted with Lydia's reprimand, she could only respond anxiously, "Mom, I had no idea things would turn out this way! It's too late to say anything now. We have to figure a way out!"
