Nathan was surely going to return for the alliance celebration.
That afternoon, he, along with Colin and the rest of his subordinates, took a helicopter back to the alliance temporary headquarters.
As soon as Nathan returned to his office, Wolfric followed him in.
“Hehe! Commander-in-chief, you're back.”
Wolfric immediately greeted Nathan with a fake smile.
Nathan was initially surprised to see Wolfric, but he quickly flashed a knowing smile. He guessed that the man must be here to discuss about the situation at Wallera.
Hence, he smiled and said, “Ah, Mr. Welz, you're looking quite dashing after all these days!”
Upon hearing this, Wolfric was taken aback. Even though Nathan was complimenting him, the forced nature of it felt rather odd, especially when paired with the man's teasing smirk.
Wolfric replied, “Mr. Cross, I've come to discuss matters concerning Wallera with you.”
Since Nathan didn't address him as Deputy Commander, this implied that their conversation was on a personal basis. Therefore, Wolfric also stopped referring to Nathan as Commander Cross.
Nathan nodded and pointed to the chair. “Let's talk while sitting. Colin, bring over a cup of tea.”
Soon, Colin brought over two cups of tea as instructed.
Wolfric took the cup and set it on the table. He didn't come here this time for the sake of drinking tea.
He got straight to the point and said, “Mr. Cross, Dido only managed to regain control of her country because of your support, isn't it? Moreover, I heard you have invested significant resources and effort to back her up.”
Nathan said with a smile, “Dido is the princess of Wallera. The old king has no sons, only a daughter.” Since the old king passed away, the responsibility of restoring the nation has fallen on Dido's shoulders. She will lead tens of thousands of her people to rebuild their homeland. I admire her ability and kindness. Moreover, I wanted to help millions of Wallera refugees. Is there anything wrong, Mr. Welz?”
Wolfric replied, “I felt that something is not quite right.”
Nathan picked up the cup and took a sip. “Oh, do tell.”
Nathan looked straight into Wolfric's eyes and said tersely, “Is it them who are fighting, or is it us?”
Wolfric was taken aback by his words. However, he soon glared at his opponent menacingly.
Nathan is right. He'll definitely support Dido. If I managed to find a so-called Prince of Wallera, we will need to compete for the throne.
What appeared on the surface as a dispute between Dido and the prince, was in fact a struggle between Nathan and Wolfric.
Wolfric didn't expect Nathan to pierce through this veil of secrecy and speak it out directly.
Suddenly, he could no longer figure out Nathan's intentions.
Nathan said with a smile, “It doesn't matter who is the one fighting; any conflict is definitely not good for everyone. I have a suggestion. I don't know if you'd like to hear it.”
Wolfric snorted, “Please speak. I'm curious to see what tricks you're planning to pull this time.”
