“It won’t snow in Wiltspoon.”
“Why?”
“It won’t snow because it won’t snow.”
Sonny was at a loss for words. He still could not understand why it would not snow in Wiltspoon. Little Sonny who always wanted to skip school ended up getting carried out of the room by his Uncle Zak.
“I’ll be dropping you off at preschool today.”
“Where’s Aunt Ser?”
Zachary replied, “I told her to sleep in so she doesn’t have to get up so early and can head to work a little later.”
Sonny immediately pouted. “You’re biased, Uncle Zak! You didn’t let me sleep in but you let Aunt Ser sleep in. Aunt Ser doesn’t have to get up early and go to work but I have to and go to preschool.”
“That’s right. I’m biased toward your Aunt Ser because she’s the person I’ll spend the rest of my life with, but you? When you’re all grown, you’ll be someone else’s man. You’ll get your hands on another family’s sweetie pie and spend the rest of your life with them. So tell me—since you’re not spending the rest of my life with me, why should I be biased toward you? It goes without saying that I’d be biased toward your Aunt Ser.”
Sonny just blinked. Evidently, he could not process everything his Uncle Zak had said all at once. Uncle Zak was so good with his words when he was with him, so why was he always losing in arguments with Aunt Ser?
Sonny retorted indignantly, “I get it now! I’m not a three-year-old kid anymore. I’m grown up and I’m in preschool! I know what you mean! Who doesn’t know what pie is? Anyway, it’s not yummy. Pies are all the same. They’re not yummy!”
He even placed particular emphasis on his last sentence. To him, pies were pies—they were not yummy. Uncle Zak even said it so weirdly. What did he mean, not that kind of pie? Was he bullying him and making it sound profound on purpose because he was young?
“Alright, alright. You don’t like pie, but I do. You’re not going to get it even if I say more, so I’ll leave it at that.”
Sonny harrumphed. “It’s just because you can’t win against me.”
“Right you are. I can’t win. You’re young, so reason is on your side.” Zachary did not want to continue arguing with the serious but innocent little boy, afraid that he would cry if he could not win the argument.
