Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 3273

Sonny had a simple breakfast before he was led out the door by Zachary, carrying his little school bag, while the rain had not stopped yet.

The moment they stepped out, the little boy shivered and said, “It really is cold today, Uncle Zak.”

“It’s only just starting to cool down.” Zachary bent down to pick him up before carrying him down the steps, holding an umbrella in his other hand. The car was stopped right at the foot of the steps.

“Haven’t you seen snow and even been in a snow fight? Why are you shivering at this little bit of cold?”

Sonny was silent for a moment before replying, “When I visited Mom, Aunt Ser gave me a really really thick jacket. The one you gave me today isn’t as thick.”

The driver was already waiting with an open door. Zachary stuffed Sonny into the car and put away the umbrella before getting in too.

“I looked at the weather forecast on my phone and it says it’s not going to be too cold today, so just one extra layer should be enough.”

There was heating in the north during winter time, but southerners just relied on a hardy body to get through the winter. If it was too cold, they would turn on the heating indoors too, but it was only around 55 degrees Fahrenheit at the moment and there really was no need to yet.

Serenity did not like turning on the heating either. Not only that, she even liked to open the windows, claiming that it was too stuffy with all the windows closed. When the temperature occasionally dropped below 50 degrees, she would turn the heater on for a short while before turning it off. This reminded Zachary when they just got married, he refused to turn the heater on no matter how cold it got.

Zachary was too embarrassed to admit that he did that on purpose so she would snuggle in his arms when she felt cold. Back then, he would always find his beloved in his arms when he woke up in the morning because she unconsciously cuddled up to him in the middle of the night, which he adored.

“Hug me, then, Uncle Zak. It’s very warm in your arms.” Sonny did not even wait for Zachary’s agreement before he snuggled into Zachary’s lap.

“Of course not. I’ll always love you,” Zachary promised. “Your Aunt Ser will too.”

Then, he asked, “Sonny, did someone say something to you? Why are you suddenly afraid that we won’t love you anymore after the baby’s born?”

Sonny replied honestly, “There was a kid at preschool yesterday crying really hard, and when the teacher asked her why she cried, she said her mommy gave birth to a little brother and everyone was hugging him and loving him but not her anymore.

“So I got scared that once Aunt Ser gives birth to the baby, she’ll stop loving me. I really like Aunt Ser. If she stops loving me, I’ll be very sad.”

Zachary said gently, “That won’t happen. Your Aunt Ser won’t stop loving you and neither will I. None of us will stop loving you just because there’s a new baby.”
