Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 3275

Zachary looked in the direction of the voice and saw a strange young woman. He had no impression of her at all. She was followed by two men who looked like bodyguards and was a little overdressed. She was even wearing a hat while her bodyguard held an umbrella for her.

Before Zachary could even speak, she introduced herself. “Mr. York, I’m Mrs. Longbottom. I often bump into your wife here at the preschool entrance. How come she isn’t dropping your nephew off today?”

It was Carrie. She was too bored staying home to recuperate and had insisted on coming out for some air. Mrs. Douglas had not been able to dissuade her. The two bodyguards did not care either. It was her body, after all. If she was not going to take care of it, who would do it for her?

In their eyes, Carrie was just their boss’s mistress and not the real madam of the house. The boss had made all the proper arrangements for her care but Carrie insisted on coming out on such a cold wintry day, so they just let her be. In Mrs. Douglas’s words, they had given Carrie fair warning but she refused to listen, so it was not their responsibility anymore.

Carrie normally waited to bump into Serenity here. She had not expected to find only Zachary dropping Sonny off in Serenity’s stead despite coming all the way here. Why had Serenity not come? Was she sick? Or had she miscarried, like she did?

Carrie really hoped Serenity had miscarried too. She would wake up laughing even from her dreams in that case. Serenity had only managed to conceive after a year of marriage. If she lost the baby, it was possible she would not be able to conceive for another few years, possibly even forever.

For the sake of finding out why Zachary had come, Carrie bravely called out to him. She thought to herself that she had improved, seeing as she could face Zachary as if nothing had happened. Mr. Longbottom would praise her once he found out.
