Two car horns blared suddenly from the lane next to them, startling Lizetta. She instinctively pushed her hand against Jerome’s shoulder.

Jerome, in turn, moved a bit to the side, casting a cold glance at the sleek black Bentley next to them. His gaze seemed to pierce through the tinted windows, locking eyes with the curious observer inside.

Lizetta, however, didn’t give it much thought, assuming the other car had just happened to honk its horn. Her mind snapped back to the present, urging Jerome.

“The light’s green.”

Jerome withdrew his gaze, gently tucking a stray lock of Lizetta’s hair behind her ear, before leisurely pulling the car back into traffic.

“You haven’t answered my question yet.”

His eyes briefly scanned the Bentley that was keeping pace with them, before he looked back at Lizetta.

The question.

Right, Jerome had mentioned he wanted to revert to his original last name. Harris—his mother’s surname.

“Why do you suddenly want to go back to it?”

Jerome’s lips twitched slightly. “I took the Madden name because Grandpa was worried I was too young and vulnerable on my own. Now that you’ve returned to the Madden family, with a legitimate heiress in the family, and you’re set to join the company, I should revert to my original surname.”

The majority of the Madden family’s business was now managed by Jerome and his brother-in-law, Conrad. Andrea, still in college, hadn’t yet joined Madden Enterprises.

Lizetta, however, was different from Andrea. Despite being the same age, Lizetta had already graduated. Nelson intended for her to start learning the ropes at Madden Enterprises now.

Jerome’s desire to revert to his original surname was also a declaration that only Ms. Madden was the legitimate heiress of the Madden family.
