She Can't Be Your Mate novel Chapter 42

"Who's Ashton?" I calmly asked, maybe a little too calmly.

"The guy who gives me rides." I snapped my head towards her and stopped walking.

"Gives you rides!?" I yelled and her eyebrows knotted together.

"Yeah." She said in a duh tone. "He doesn't go fast, don't worry." I turned around and punched the tree, poor thing snapped and fell over. "Zane calm down. It's no big deal." No big deal? She tried to walk forward but I wasn't sure what would happen if she got any closer so I took a few steps back. "It's fun, and it helped me forget about everything that happened. He's a nice guy, Zane."

"Oh, well as long as he's a nice guy." I sarcastically retorted. "Does he know you have a mate? Does he know I'm your mate?"

"No, I don't want people to treat me differently. If they knew who my mate was, they wouldn't think of me the same." My face must be as red as a lobster now. I was fuming with anger. "If it helps, he makes me put my seatbelt on." She softly added and my face dropped.

"A seatbelt?" I asked, now super confused. Even I've never made any girls do that.

"Yeah. And the ride isn't as nice as with you!" I scowled at her.

"I think I'd remember if you had ridden on me, Devina." Her face turned bright red and her eyes widened.

"On!?" She squeaked, making me confused. "I was talking about cars Zane! He drives me home from school!" By now I was clutching my stomach, laughing. "Y-you are so dirty minded!" She slapped my arm making me completely fall over, pulling her down with me. We both laughed and rolled around on the ground.

"Only for you, babe." I winked and propped myself up on my elbows. She giggled and nudged my shoulder with hers. "I thought you were having sex with some other guy." I chuckled making her blush again.

"I know. Now stop saying that!" She let her head drop down.

"It's better than having no rank, like you." Everyone snickered and Ben fumed.

"You little bitch. I bet Zane's just using you. Like he does with every other girl. Babe, if I knew you were so easy I'd try doing you sooner." My face flushed.

"Yeah, you'd try. And fail. It's okay though, eventually, you'll win at something. And maybe you'll get a little trophy to show your mom that you're better than your brother." His face turned red with anger. I don't know how I knew that, but I was glad I did. Gillie must have mentioned it sometime. He didn't say anything, he just jumped down from the desk and sat down in his seat.

When the bell finally rang, I scurried out of the classroom and into the hallway. All the students were clearing a path for me as if I had a contagious disease like Ebola. I tried to walk faster to the doors but was pulled back by a rough hand.

"You fucked up," Ben whispered into my ear and yanked me outside to the side of the school. "Who told you that?" He shoved me against the wall and grabbed my neck. When I didn't respond, he threw a punch to my cheek, making my head jerk back and smash against the brick wall. "You're just a little bitch!" He yelled in my face and sent another painful punch to my stomach. "He's just going to use you and throw you away. That's what you deserve." He was going to throw another punch but his hand was stopped by a fuming Ashton. "Get out of here Gilbert," Ben growled but Ashton shoved him away and grabbed me.
