"I do have to. I can't just drop out of school and live with a bunch of cult followers." I tightened my grip on the steering wheel and held my breath. She really has no clue what's going on. "And a cult leader." She added.
"I'm not leading a cult, Devina."
"Then what the heck is going on? You and your "followers" live out in the middle of nowhere so that other people can't see what's going on, everyone who lives there calls you Alpha like you're some kind of wolf pack leader thing and you called me your mate. You don't sound Australian to me." I smiled at her rant and turned down the heat. She got some of that right. I want to explain everything to Devina. That's the only thing I want right now but why would I do that? I need to reject her and let her go before someone gets hurt. "And plus, I need to get home to see my fish." Right. I forgot about that. The way she talks about him makes me jealous. A fish is making me jealous. I shook my head at my own stupidity and softly chuckled. "Stop laughing at me!" She punched my arm which felt like a little tap. It made me a little nervous to think about her having to fight someone, she'd definitely lose.
"You need to work on your punches Dev." I shot her a sly smirk at the nickname.
"Dev?" She asked.
"Yeah, Dev like Devina but shorter. It's cute." She furrowed her brows and shrugged. She likes it.
"Alright, Zanie." I slammed on the brakes and glared at her.
"No," I growled, that's what Gwen calls me. I shivered at the thought of being with her right now.
"Sorry." She softly replied and looked out the front windshield. I sighed and continued driving down the road.
The next morning, the house was anything but quiet. My mom decided to vacuum the hallway outside of my room, at nine in the morning. I groaned and hopped out of bed. Last night when I got home, she was already in bed sound asleep so I couldn't face her wrath. I guess I will have to now. I quickly got dressed and opened my door and stepped in front of her, showing her that I was awake. She looked up at me and narrowed her eyes, shutting the vacuum off and propping her hand on her hip.
"I can't believe you. Who do you think you are?" She began yelling. I took a step back and sighed.
"Did you even call the school? Or google what happened yesterday?" The news took this "incident" as a contest, seeing who can have the most views on their news channel or website. One even went as far as saying the wolves were werewolves. Who would even believe that?
"Yes I did and I'm sorry you had to experience that but it gives you no excuse to just leave town and do whatever you want. You're only sixteen Devina!" My mouth gaped open.
