Marylin Ye walked up to his desk with nervousness, reached out her hands to put down the design drawings lightly, and said in an official tone, "Mr. Shen, these are the design drawings for the first phase of the Rose Villa."
"Put it down and leave." Jamie Shen gave a brief command.
Marylin didn't leave immediately after hearing the words, instead, she stood still and poked her hands uneasily.
"What else?" The man's voice was cold and harsh.
Marylin swallowed, brewing her words, and said, "Mr. Shen, there is something that I, I have to pay the rent today, but I don’t have any money for the time being, can you lend me some for the moment? I will pay you back immediately after I get the salary."
"You are short of money?" Jamie raised his head when hearing this, staring at her face, and sneered, "Are you really short of money or you want me to fuck you now? Didn't you enjoy yourself enough last night?"
Marylin clenched her hands and took a step back subconsciously. If she knew that he would humiliate her in such an occasion, she would never ask him for help even if she would be driven out by the landlord tonight.
Seeing her face flushed instantly, Jamie softened his eyebrows, looked away deliberately, and said in a hoarse tone, "I have a social party to attend to tonight. Come to me tomorrow night."
Marylin stubbornly did not respond to him. She turned and pushed the door to run out of the office.
It was almost evening and that she was going to get off work, Marylin still couldn't borrow enough money for the rent.
Since coming out of Jamie's office in the morning, she had felt that every colleague around her was looking at her strangely. She was restless, uneasy, and uncomfortable. Her heart was tormented inside.
After getting off work, Marylin walked directly to the hospital where her mother was.
Her mother was unconscious after a stroke three years ago and had been staying in the hospital. Her father hated his wife because of the death of Marylin's sister which they thought was caused by Marilyn. caused by Marylin they thought. After Marylin’s mother fell ill, he didn’t pay a cent for the medical expenses. At that time, Marylin had no one to turn to but went to beg Jamie for help with the huge medical expenses.
At eight o’clock in the evening, Marylin left the hospital. Her mother still hadn’t regained her consciousness, unaware of her daughter’s arrival.
After walking a long way, Marylin turned on her cell phone but found out that even the cell phone signal had been shut down due to arrears and she could not make a phone call.
Her house had a leaking roof and it really leaked on rainy nights.
She walked on aimlessly, and unknowingly, until she came near to her old school. She stood in front of a noodles restaurant, watching the hot smoke coming out of the soup pot in the shop, and couldn't help but salivate.
She walked into the noodles shop and ordered one small bowl of noodles. The hot and delicious food was quickly served by the owner. She buried her head into the noodles and started to devour.
Finally, when she fed her starving belly, she tried her cell phone again to connect to the WIFI in the noodles shop. She used the red-envelope money grabbed from friends on WeChat to pay for the food that saved her life.
When she turned to leave the noodles shop, a familiar and low voice called out to her "Marylin, is that you?"
Marylin looked around and found out that Cheng Lu, her former classmate, stood behind her.
Cheng was wearing a well-regulated suit, which showed at a glance that he was just getting off work.
He recognized Marylin out of surprise, with bright eyes, "Marylin, I didn't expect it to be really you."
Marylin was also surprised to meet on old classmate here, smiling at him in a friendly way. She remembered that Cheng had a good family background. There were always many classmates around him, but he always said very few words. He also walked quietly and gently without ever talking to her, let alone any deep communication. Because they had never been close, the two did not contact each other after graduation, and they did not even added each other on social media.
