Iris didn’t want to talk to her alone not because she was afraid Nala would do something horrible to her, since she used to have this kind of intention whenever she was close to her, but because Iris didn’t think there was something for them to talk about.
She knew Nala was not in a good situation, since she lost her father during the attack and now she was so far away from her home, from the people she knew and was surrounded by pack members who didn’t care much about her.
The King was gone and no matter how horrible it sounded, without the King, she was nothing. The respect she got was only due to the fact that she was some sort of favored woman to the King, though she couldn’t be called his mistress.
Iris sympathized with her predicament, but she didn’t want to have anything to do with her. She had stayed invisible until now, thus she wanted her to stay that way. She couldn’t care less about how she was going to survive in this pack.
More so, Iris was so hungry. The new concoction that Grace gave to her after she passed out, made her want to eat more and more, which made her gain more fat.
"Please, Luna. This is important." Nala bit her lip nervously, she tried to avoid the piercing gazes from the warriors and only focused on Iris.
"I don’t think there is anything important to talk about between us, Nala."
Nala clenched her jaw tightly, she looked like, either she was going to cry or lash out, but surprisingly, when she spoke her voice was calm enough. "If I can’t talk with you, I am going to talk to the Alpha."
It was a mystery how Nala’s mind was working to think this kind of threat would work on Iris, especially now when she was sure of Cane’s feelings toward her.
Iris’ eyes dimmed when she heard that. She really wanted to squeeze that wolf spirit hovering above Nala, so she wouldn’t be an eyesore to her anymore. Actually, it surprised Iris that she even entertained the thought. She was not sure since when she became so violent.
However, Iris knew better than to lose her temper, because that was the reaction Nala wanted from her.
Instead, Iris smiled gently, which looked so eerie after such provocation. "Good luck," she said simply and then walked away.
Ethan laughed and followed his luna, he gave two thumbs up to her for the cool way she handled the situation.
Even Maria couldn’t get a chance to see Cane, let alone Nala. Iris was sure, just like her, Cane must have forgotten about her existence, since she didn’t have any benefit to her.
Nala didn’t come from a prestigious family and the only respected figure in her family was her father, who now had died, thus without a man in power in her life, she was nothing.
It was a disgusting thing to say, but it was true that a woman’s status was based on the men in their life and now, when Nala had no one, she was nothing.
The other five warriors looked at each other and then glanced at Nala, but they didn’t give a second thought, as they followed their luna.
It was only Kian, who checked on Nala, as he glanced at her over his shoulder and saw she was crying silently.
===============================
The dinner was lively, even though the food was not as scrumptious as usual, since their storage had been destroyed during the attack. They needed to get more supplies. There was a lot to take care of after the attack.
Thankfully, they didn’t need to be bothered by the royal family, or other schemes from the King, since he had died and there was literally a war going on in the capital city.
This was why Cane sent Koda over to claim the throne and create distraction from his pack. Let the old man do what he was good at, while Cane bagged the benefits for his pack.
However, the said alpha, who had driven away potential troubles from his pack, seemingly couldn’t get his mate away from his own warriors, as Iris kept chatting with Ethan, Eron and Dyne. It was annoying because she literally had her back to Cane, while laughing happily at whatever Ethan said.
Cane supported his head with one hand and played with her hair, while the warriors there couldn’t help stealing a glance or two, even three, as they got distracted by the way their alpha stared at his luna.
Their alpha was just playing with their luna’s hair, but why did his eyes look like he was going to devour her?
Cane ignored their curious and dumbstruck gazes, as he rested his head in his palm lazily with the support of the armrest. He pulled her hair lightly to get her attention.
Feeling the pull on her hair, Iris turned around to look at him. "Hm?" She gave him a questioning look, but Cane simply shook his head.
Thinking, Cane only accidentally pulled her hair because he was playing with it, Iris didn’t pay him any mind and continued to chat with Ethan and the others.
"And you know, there is this royal guard, who is so stupid and I managed to get all of his money!" freewebnøvel.com
