"Ah! You are here again!" the woman in the bookstore clapped her hand excitedly when she saw Iris walked inside with Zale and Celia, Eron and Dyne came with her, while the rest waited outside. "I see you don’t hide your hair again because he is not here?" she winked at Iris.
"Wow! Book! A lot of books!" Celia gasped. Because she had never learned how to read before this, thus there was no point for her to go to library when she was in the pack, but now she was interested, especially when she already managed to string a few words together.
The woman smiled at Celia. "Check that aisle, I am sure you can find a book that you like!"
Celia looked at Iris first, asking for her permission, only when the luna nodded, she bolted toward the aisle that the woman pointed, but Zale stayed close to Iris.
"Why don’t you go with your friend and check something out there?" the woman asked Zale gently.
"I am here to protect the luna, not to look for a book," Zale replied curtly, which made Eron and Dyne snickered and stopped when the young boy threw them a look. It was well proven that he had a bad temper.
"Go with Celia and find the book you like, I want to talk with her alone," Iris said softly, as she ruffled his hair, which made Zale lowered his head sheepishly.
"Okay," he said in small voice and then went to the same aisle like Celia.
Meanwhile, Eron and Dyne knew to keep their distance and give Iris privacy. They were not too far, but not close enough to listen to her conversation.
"Are you looking for that book again? You come right in time, the merchant from Karam are here and they brought new collection with them, you must check this one out. But..." the woman lowered her voice and gave her a suggestive look. "You have read the book, it’s time to learn it from the expert, I can ask my friend..."
Iris immediately cut her off before she could suggest her friend again to be her tutor in that matter. She didn’t need a tutor though...
"I am looking for another book," Iris said hastily. She was not such a maniac to start reading those books all the time and collect them. She would get into trouble if they started to move again. Three books could be hid, but more than that, the chance another people saw it would be more higher. She felt like she was going to die when Cane and Aliana learned about it.
The woman tilted her head, a little bit disappointed because Iris rejected her suggestion. "What book do you want?"
"Do you have..." Iris was a little bit uncomfortable when she said it. "Black magic and curse?"
"Of course, I have!" the woman chirped. After all, book about black magic and curse was not really forbidden, though you need extra effort to find them.
"No, what I meant is..." Iris fiddled with her fingers. "The forbidden one..."
The corner of that woman’s lips curled, as she understood what Iris wanted and chuckled, which made Iris felt even more uncomfortable.
"I know what do you want. I will not say anything about this, don’t worry." The woman beckoned her to come closer, as she went to her desk.
"Do you have book about the history of the Serafim and the Holy Kingdom?"
If Haco couldn’t help her with this, she would figure things out on her own, even though, Cane had shown her that you couldn’t believe one hundred percent of what you were reading from a book, because the information could be fabricated, but at the very least, Iris could get the gist of it.
"Sure! You will like these books!"
============================
"The baby is only being a baby, Redmond, what do you mean he can understand what you are saying?" Ethan stared at the baby on his crib, who stared back at him with his clear eyes. He felt like Redmond was staring at him instead, but this one was less annoying.
"Tell him a joke," Redmond urged. "He can understand a joke."
Ethan gave him a nasty look. "Someone hit your head on your way here and spilled your brain? I don’t think you are sane now."
"Damn it, mutt! Just do it!" Redmond growled. "You will understand."
Ethan felt like he was going crazy, even more when he took it seriously and actually started to recall a joke that he knew to this baby.
"What did the horse say after it tripped?" Ethan asked to no one in particular. "Help! I have fallen and I can’t giddy up!"
Silence.
"Is that supposed to be a joke?" Redmond gave Ethan a nasty look, while the gamma glared at him.
"I tried, okay!"
Maybe because the tension between them and how they talked viciously under their breath, or maybe because the joke was not funny at all, but the baby was crying now. Fat tears fell from his eyes, as his face turned so red.
"See? He can understand! He cries because your joke was not funny!" Redmond pointed his finger to his son, as he told Ethan proudly.
"Damn it, red hair! The baby is being a baby!" Ethan bickered with him.
