This was a memory.
When Iris’s power fussed with Rei’s, she saw his memories. It almost felt like when she absorbed the black magic from Ethan and Lou. She could see a glimpse of their past. The same thing happened with Abby too.
In Rei’s memory, Iris saw a young woman, around the seventeen, she looked like her, but with long, black hair, staring at the distance. She stared at the moon with longing in her eyes.
Beside her was a man, around the same age as her, standing close by. He was wearing the black cloak with hoodie that covered his face. This was an attire that a member of pure faction used to wear, while the other member of the Holy Kingdom used to wear white cloak.
It meant, whoever this woman was, she lived within the pure faction’s control. And this woman could be...
"What are you doing here, Nera?" Rei asked. He looked the same, but at the same time, he was slightly different. He looked cheerful and full of energy. There was this deep adoration and love in his green eyes for the woman that he called Nera.
Without doubt. She was Iris’s mother. She looked so young and extremely beautiful. Her eyes glinted under the moonlight and her black hair matched with the night sky.
She looked very serene and peaceful.
Meanwhile, the young man resigned himself and nodded politely at Rei, in which he ignored, as his main focus was on the woman before his eyes.
"The night is so cold, you need to go back. You will put your health at risk if you stayed here for long." Rei leaned over and kissed her forehead.
"I don’t want to do it again," Nera said in small voice. "The ritual was very painful. I don’t want to do it again."
Hearing that, a harsh slap landed on Nera’s face, which made her body fell to the ground, but the next second, Rei had crouched down and hugged her protectively, as if he didn’t hit her in the first place.
"You shouldn’t have said that. You need to bear it for a while." Rei caressed her back, hugging her carefully. "Your body will be able to take it. You only need to bear with it for a while. The whole process is almost done. You can’t give up now," Rei said. "I am sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you, but you shouldn’t have said something that upset me."
Rei freed her and cup her face between his palms, as he kissed her swollen cheek gently.
"Don’t make me upset again, okay? I hate to hurt you." Rei watched how her woman nodded her head obediently. freewebnoveℓ.com
And the memory stopped there, as Iris was pulled back to reality, where she saw Rei was staring at her. It seemed, he knew what she had seen and didn’t expect Iris to pry into his past.
Meanwhile, the blinding white light that emanated from Iris’s body slowly dissipated, where the darkness returned, but the five dragons managed to be tamed.
The five ancient creatures stopped burning the ground and flew so close to the ground, as two of them had landed near the protection web.
Right at that time, the lycan didn’t even wait, as he used his black wisp to cut off two of the dragon’s head in one swift move! Lu didn’t have a patient to wait and listen what Rei was going to do with these creatures after he managed to control them.
If Rei managed to control the dragon, it meant, he would get more power for himself and Lu wouldn’t let it.
They had the same goal now, but after everything was over, they were standing at the opposite of the bridge. Lu would not take a risk by letting him to get stronger.
In this case, the lycan acted the way Cane would.
"Wh- what is that?" Iris stared at Rei with a mixed of emotions. She heard about the second child of Elder Rose and her mother was a splitting image of the elder that was why, in the beginning people would talk how Iris and Abby looked similar, though it was still a question where did they get their red hair and blue eyes. "Was that... my mother? The second baby of Elder Rose is my mother?"
Iris put two and two together and she got this conclusion.
Elder Rose was shocked when she heard this. She couldn’t her mind around Iris’s statement. She thought she misheard it. How did she know about her second child?
"What do you mean with that?" Elder Rose asked in low voice, she had been distracted by an entirely different matter. She didn’t look like she wanted to survive whatever the outcome of this war, but what Iris said snatched her attention.
Yet, Iris didn’t heed her question, her entire focus was on Rei.
"That’s my mother, right? I saw your memory. I am sure of it. That’s my mother, right? You called her name. Nera. That’s my mother." Iris didn’t have any picture of her mother, because Gerald didn’t want to be reminded of her, but one time, her sitter drew a picture of her mother and she remembered that, since the old lady was quite talented.
"What did you see?" Elder Rose came forward, she wanted to shake Iris’s body, so she could talk more, but Elder Dandolf had stopped them.
"We are in the middle of a war, can you please focus on this. Let’s put aside irrelevant matter," Elder Dandolf said wisely. "We will have a lot of time to talk about this once we could win this war."
Rei didn’t say anything. He didn’t look remorseful, only sad.
On the other hand, Iris really wanted to know more, but she couldn’t afford to be distracted, since her emotions would affect Decratic’s strength. She knew, she was going to be emotional if she heard the explanation and even hated Rei more.
