The Beauty and the Brain by Natalie Jones novel Chapter 157

Chapter 157

Darwin was also very angry because he just couldn’t find the right feeling. He felt that this movie was not his style, and he couldn’t perfectly immerse

himself in the role.

Initially, Darwin was chosen as the male lead because he was in the limelight, and he had auditioned with a scene from the early part of Jansen’s story. Darwin performed very well, which led the director to select him.

Who would have known that when it came to capturing Jansen’s inner thoughts and emotions later on, which required a lot of facial expressions and

eye movements to portray the character’s transformation, Darwin completely dropped the ball and was totally off his game.

The assistant director called for a break, and Sabrina immediately rushed over to hand Darwin a towel, comforting him by saying, “Darwin, don’t take it to heart. The director is just worried about the film.”

Darwin nodded, “I know, wasn’t I anxious too?”

Marie waved from the side, and Darwin walked over and asked, “Marie, how did you get here? Where’s Sasha?”

Sabrina followed and heard Darwin asking Sasha, a hint of sadness flashed in her eyes. She quickly adjusted her emotions and greeted Marie as well, “Hello, Ms. Spence.”

Marie nodded slightly, “Ms. Jenkins, hello.”

They looked back at Darwin and asked, “What’s wrong? Weren’t you known for your great acting skills? Couldn’t you get Jansen’s role?”

Darwin sat down beside Marie with a frustrated look on his face, took a sip of water, and said, “I don’t know either! Everything was going well, but I just couldn’t achieve the feeling the director wanted.”

“It’s normal to be scolded by the director if you don’t perform well,” Marie

said.

Darwin glanced at Marie and said, “What are you talking about? Did you see

how fierce and terrifying that director was? He even scolded me for not knowing what ‘comrades’ meant. Of course I don’t know! I bet not many people in this production team know either! Don’t you think?”

Marie was taken aback for a moment, but no, she understood.

She understood the meaning of comrades better than anyone else. They were

the people you could trust with your back in crucial moments, the ones who had been through snow and rain with you, and who had charged through gunfire together.

And what about her comrades?

Those young boys and girls were eliminated one by one by Wren.

At that moment, Marie probably understood better than anyone why Jansen felt such guilt, such pain, and had trouble sleeping every night.

Because Marie was also like that at the time, she was tormented by guilt and pain, unable to fall asleep.

Marie knew why Darwin couldn’t act anymore; he could play Jaime or Cassius, but no matter how the roles developed, they ultimately ended up as a handsome, charming man and a beautiful female protagonist talking about

love.

This was what Darwin excelled at, he was familiar with it, so he joined acting, handling it proficiently and effortlessly.

However, when faced with the role of Jansen, it touched upon Darwin’s blind

spot.

He never had any so-called comrades. He had been independent since he was young, to the point that even Andres couldn’t handle him. How could anyone possibly work in unity and share weal and woe with him?

Get Hot

He had never experienced this kind of emotion before, so even with all hist

effort, he still couldn’t do it.

Marie patted Darwin’s shoulder and said, “I know why you can’t perform well,

do you want me to help?”

Darwin looked at Marie with delight and asked, “How can I help?”

“Crash course,” Marie said very concisely.

Darwin’s eyes lit up, “There’s a crash course? Where is it? Take me there!”

Marie nodded, “Alright, I’ll go inform the director that I’m taking a leave.”

After clarifying with the director, Marie left the production team with Darwin.

Sabrina smiled and said goodbye to them, “Darwin! Keep it up!”

Darwin happily waved to Sabrina and followed Marie into the car.

Luca drove all the way to the suburbs, almost leaving the New York boundary, and entered a military area.

Darwin was dumbfounded, “A crash course here?”

Watching a group of neatly dressed soldiers walking around, it didn’t seem

like they were filming a movie…

Marie nodded, “It’s here. How would you know Jansen’s thoughts if you don’t experience it yourself?”

Jansen was also a hedonistic person who was forced to join the army. He

looked down on others, didn’t demand much from himself, wasted his years,

and regretted half of his life.

Luca looked at Darwin with a smile and said, “Go ahead, it’s a lot of fun.”

Darwin was speechless.

Get Borus — —

Marie pulled Darwin inside and met an officer, to whom she directly handed Darwin over.

Ten minutes later, a well-dressed Darwin reappeared, looking impressively handsome in his military uniform.

Marie laughed and said, “Starting from today, you’ll eat and live with everyone here, experiencing the army camp life. Naturally, you’ll be able to understand Jansen’s thoughts and feelings.”

Darwin was completely dumbfounded, “Me? Here? You want me to live with them? Sleep in a dormitory?”

Marie nodded, “Yes, we lived together, ate together, and trained together.”

Darwin immediately said, “No way! I have to go back and continue filming! I left halfway through, the director will scold me to death!”

Marie laughed, “No, the director thought you needed a quick crash course to better portray the role of Jansen, so he specifically approved a half-month vacation for you. They can start filming the supporting roles first.”

Filming a movie is not like filming a TV series. In more than half a year, there’s only one movie. So, if we gave Darwin half a month, it wouldn’t have any impact on the production team, and it would allow him to perform this

role better.

“Can’t they let me not ruin the atmosphere at the army camp? Can’t I just stay for half a month if I say so?” Darwin held onto his last hope.

Marie shook her head, “Don’t worry, you can really stay for half a month if

you want, and Dennis said, feel free to disrupt their serious atmosphere, he doesn’t mind betting with you.”

Darwin was taken aback, “Dennis? What does this have to do with Dennis?”

Marie said with a smile, “Dennis is quite familiar with this place and knows

some people. He can help you get in and gain some experience.’

“Did you guys… did you guys do this, and Andres had no objections?” Darwin wailed like a ghost.
