The Beauty and the Brain by Natalie Jones novel Chapter 188

Chapter 188

After a while, Marie was suddenly struck by the thought of Noel. She sat up and pulled Dennis out of the

ward. “Could you please ask Cullen to assist me in investigating Mia? I want to know who she was involved

with over 20 years ago.”

Dennis frowned. “Twenty years ago? Why delve into something from so long ago?”

Marie retrieved a laboratory report from her pocket and handed it to Dennis. “Today, I discovered that Noel’s

blood type doesn’t match ours. I have a suspicion that he might be Mia’s illegitimate child from a past

relationship. If we’re unable to identify Mia’s current partner, it’s plausible that we’ve been searching in the

wrong places. Could you please ask Cullen to investigate individuals from over 20 years ago, including their blood types?”

Dennis took the laboratory report in his hand. “Okay, don’t worry. Leave it to me.”

Marie nodded and smiled again. “If Grandpa is fine this time, even if I uncovered the truth, I won’t be making

any scene. I’ll consider it as a gesture for Grandpa’s sake.”

Dennis gently caressed her face, then lowered his head and planted a tender kiss on her teary, swollen eyes.

“Don’t worry, he is going to be fine. Old Mr. Spence cherishes you too much to be parted from you.”

“I know!” Marie closed her eyes and sobbed. She truly feared that Asher might never wake up again, robbing

her of any opportunity to bid him goodbye.

Ever since Asher fell ill, Iliana had taken over all the responsibility for all the matters concerning JCL. Marie

rarely visited the studio anymore, and even when she had work, she would handle it from within the ward.

Asher regained consciousness after three days. Marie insisted on keeping him under observation for an

additional week before finally taking him back home. Each day, she steadfastly remained by his side, sharing

meals, going for walks together, and even tending to her work from home.

Unable to bear witnessing her current state, Asher spoke up, “Marie, I’m fine. Dr. Hart assured me that my condition is stable. Please, stop spending your days hovering around an old man like me.”

Marie shook her head. “I wanted to be here with you, Grandpa. I must ensure you take your medication on

time, eat well, and have proper rest.”

Asher sighed with a hint of helplessness in his voice. “You don’t have to watch over me like this. I’m not a

child anymore.”

Marie replied with a pout and an aggrieved look on her face, “Grandpa, you used to complain about me never

being at home. And now that I’m here with you every day, you find me bothersome!”

Asher fixed his gaze upon her with sternness. “Nonsense! When did I ever find you bothersome? If you genuinely want to demonstrate your filial piety, then you should bring that young man from the Whitney family back and settle with marriage. That’s when I will truly find joy.”

Marie hurriedly ran upstairs with her laptop In her arms and exclaimed, “Grandpa is talking nonsense all th

She pondered to herself as she reached the upper floor, Grandpa’s health was deteriorating day by day. Perhaps I should go along with his wishes and get everything settled to make him happy for once.

Just as she was in her thoughts, her phone rang. She quickly answered, “Dennis, what’s the matter?”

“Marie, come over to Glorious Estate. I have something to tell you.”

“Is it about Mia?” Marie asked as she sat up.

“Yes.”

Marie immediately changed her clothes and ran downstairs to inform Asher that she was heading out,

promising to return soon to have a meal with him.

Luca sent Marie to Glorious Estate and followed her in. As they entered, Cullen noticed Luca and politely

greeted him. Cullen was aware of Luca’s involvement in the incident at the warehouse along the coast, so he

was cautious around him.

Marie asked as she sat on the sofa, “What did you find out?”

Dennis glanced at Cullen, who immediately stepped forward and handed all the documents to Marie. “As per

your request, we extended the investigation timeline back and discovered that during Mia’s college years, she

was involved with a man named Baily Smith. However, it appears that her parents disapproved of their

relationship, leading to their eventual breakup.”

“Breakup? And then?” Marie asked.

“Then, Mia met Mr. Spence. It was rumored to be love at first sight, and they swiftly became involved.

However, during that period, Old Mr. Spence was already in search of a suitable wife for Mr. Spence,

presumably your mother. Mr. Spence heeded Old Mr. Spence’s wishes and married your mother, treating her with the utmost respect. It was only after Mia gave birth to Noel that Mr. Spence began to show more

favoritism towards her.”

“He has a relationship with Mia and he still married my mother? And he even made my mother pregnant?”

Marie clenched her fist.

Noel continued in detail, “I haven’t uncovered the precise details yet, but that seems to be the general course

of events. Subsequently, Mia received continuous support from Mr. Spence and eventually gave birth to Olive. I’ve heard that during that period, Mia frequently visited the Spence mansion and caused trouble. As for your mother, after giving birth to you, her mental state deteriorated rapidly, leading to her untimely demise. Following her passing, Mr. Spence married Mia, and soon after their union, Carly was born.” Cullen answered.

Marie furrowed her brows and asked, “What about Baily Smith? Did he never appear throughout this whole ordeal?”

Cullen flipped through the documents. “Indeed, he hasn’t appeared much, but he had a relationship with Mia. As requested by Ms. Marie, I specifically checked his blood type. It was type A.”

Marie was taken aback. “Type A? Noel is also type A!”
