The Beta's Regret (Eden and Eros) novel Chapter 219

(Shevek’s Pov)

I stuck to the shadows as much as I could.

At this point, it was clear to me that Alpha Griffin wanted to harm Rose.

My blood pumped in fury as I thought about all the terrible things Alpha Griffin might have done to my beloved.

The Silvermoon pack has always been brutal in their tactics, and Alpha Griffin seemed to be the originator of such practices. I suddenly stopped and lifted my nose to the air. I could sense her now.

She was close by.

I looked around where I was, but there was no place that seemed good enough to hide Rose in.

I refused to give up.

Finally, I saw a small window positioned at an oddly low level, almost to the ground.

I knew that window didn't lead to a room in the house, more like a room below the ground.

That was it! An underground room.

I dropped to the ground and tried the window. It was locked. I tried to force it open and stopped suddenly when I heard a light thud, and I stopped moving, then looked through the window at the room inside.

My eyes widened when I saw Rose.

She was tied helplessly to a chair. I frowned when I saw a young woman towering over her. She turned, and I saw that it was Rose’s other daughter.

Olivia.

I knew who she was because I had previously done a background check on Rose.

I frowned. What was going on between mother and daughter?

I couldn't hear what they were talking about, but from Rose’s horrific expression, it was obvious that it wasn’t pleasant information.

Before I knew what was happening, Olivia hit Rose on the head with a metal object.

I gasped.

Olivia was in support of Alpha Griffin.

I watched Rose pass out from the pain, and the anger in me surged.

I thought about breaking the window and going through it, but I decided against it. The window was too small to aid quick movements, and that meant that the young woman would raise an alarm before I could do any damage to her, and that would only put Rose and me in trouble.

It took all I had to stay still and not barge in through the window as fast as I could just to save Rose.

Every second I spent watching her felt painful, but I waited until the young woman left the room before I decided to make my move.

I applied more strength and forced the window open. The sound cut through the air sharply, but I didn’t care. I needed to get to my beloved.

I slipped through the window faster than I'd imagined it would be and got to Rose.

She looked weak. The ropes around her wrists were bound so tightly they almost cut through her wrists. She looked pale.

Why was she so weak?

I worked fast. I snapped the rope in half on her wrists and legs and took her in my arms.

I turned back to the window. It was too small for both of us to go through at once.
