The Beta's Regret (Eden and Eros) novel Chapter 220

(Eden’s Pov)

The car drove to a stop in front of the royal palace. All through the ride, Eros didn’t say a word. He was tight-lipped and refused to look at me.

Ahead of us, the other cars came to a halt. We stepped out of the car and followed the elders as they led the way inside.

I took a look around as I walked.

It was a beautiful place. Eros's childhood home.

I wanted to know what it must have felt like for him here. I looked at him. His face was set in serious lines.

I sighed and continued assessing the palace.

The mansion stood tall and well maintained. A fountain in the middle of the palace grounds reminded me of a waterfall.

Soon, we entered the hall, and I saw that the interior was better than the exterior.

“Eros.” I called, but he ignored me and walked ahead, stopping at the center of the hall.

I knew he was still displeased with what had happened. So, I moved closer and placed a hand on his shoulder.

He was tense. I felt it beneath my palm. The way his muscles became taut.

“We will get over this.” I said.

When he still didn't respond, I sighed and moved back. I was exhausted. I needed rest, but watching Eros fume because of Ryker made me very unhappy.

I thought the brothers would eventually come to love each other, not this.

“A maid will show you to your room.” Elder Crandall said.

Immediately, a maid walked up to us and took our bags. It wasn’t a lot.

I looked back and realized that Ryker wasn't with us. Somewhere in between, he must have been ushered into his own room.

I sighed.

“Welcome, my Lord, my Lady.” The maid bowed slightly with a smile. “My name is Avilla.” She said.

I returned her smile. At the same time, I caught the eyes of Elder Crandall, who gave me a disapproving look.

I had a feeling that I wasn't supposed to smile with the maids.

“Please follow me.” Avilla said and started moving.

I made a move to follow her then stopped when I noticed Eros didn’t take a step.

“Let's go.” I said.

He shook his head. “I need to go for a walk.” He answered.

Before I could respond, Eros hurried away.

I knew what this was about. Ryker and this palace. Aside from the incident that happened earlier with Ryker, I also knew that this palace only held terrible memories for Eros, and he hasn't been back here in a long time.

I understood his need for space and allowed him to go.

“Let's go.” I said to the maid who had stopped for us to meet up with her.

I saw someone running through the forest. I couldn't see the person's face, just a figure. Behind the person, some werewolves were in hot pursuit.

All of a sudden, another wolf came out from the sides and knocked the person out.

Fear rocked my body as A wooden stake shaped in the form of a cross appeared from nowhere and the figure was stabbed in the heart.

The faces were a blur, but as soon as the person was stabbed, I gasped and woke up with a start.

I wheezed, trying to take in air as I grasped my chest. It felt like the stake was driven through my own heart. I trembled as tears slipped down my face from the pain that rocked me.

What just happened?

Did I just have a vision? Or was it just a dream?

This has got to be one of the gifts the moon goddess bestowed on Tiara and I. The power of vision… But I couldn’t tell who got stabbed. There were no faces I could recognize, but it felt so real, almost as if I was stabbed myself.

And the pain.

One thing was sure. The person who got stabbed was a vampire, and not just any ordinary one but a powerful one.

The stake shaped like a cross was the only way to kill a powerful vampire. It was an age-old practice.

A shiver rocked through my spine as I felt another bolt of pain. Along with it, a feeling of betrayal and regret stormed me.

I wasn't sure why I had all these emotions all of a sudden. They didn't feel like mine, yet I felt them.

The only reasonable explanation was that the person was important to me. And the only powerful vampire I knew was Lord Shevek… my father.

Was my father dead?
