Sophie POV.
I take a good look at myself in the mirror. My face is swollen, my lip split, my nose is broken, both eyes are black. My jaw aches. I glare at my reflection.
I ball my hands into fists and they burn. This is not the worst of what they have done. But enough is enough. I can’t keep running. I need to stand and face them.
I lift the hospital gown and see the black bruising forming on my ribs and across my stomach. I wince with the movement.
Ok, Sophie. What are you going to do? I ask myself as I look again at my face and something takes over in me. Not fear, something cracks and breaks free, demanding their heads. They are not my family anymore.
I think I was always too scared to admit that to myself. But now. They can go and fuck themselves. I have taken it for far too long. I straighten up and pull my long black hair up into a ponytail. I wince with the stinging pain and the burning ache in my ribs.
They have done this for the last time. I am not their punch bag and I certainly am not their money maker.
“I’m sorry, mom, you will never see them in heaven. They will rot in hell for what they have done. They have damned themselves and I will be their judgement.” I say quietly in the bathroom of the hospital room I am in.
I hear voices coming from the bedroom and know who they are. Harry and Rebel. I sigh and limp to the door. Opening the door, I limp out and head back to the bed.
“Soph, I thought you left. I was just organising a search. I’m so stupid I should have looked in the bathroom. Let me help you. You shouldn’t be out of bed.” Harry comes to my side and I brace my hands on the mattress and take a few breaths. Just limping has caused my ribs and lungs to burn.
“Thank you Harry, I woke up, and I was alone. I needed the bathroom. I didn’t think you were here.” I say to him as he and his mom help me back into bed and I groan as I sit up as Harry covers my legs with the blankets.
He sits next to my bed and his mom sits on the bed. I look at Harry and smile softly at him before I look at his mom and she is taking in every injury, every bruise and I give her a small smile, too.
“You are probably wondering who did this to me?” I say, not looking at either of them. No big girl panty time, Sophie. Eye contact, no more being scared.
I lift my head and look at Harry and his face is blank.
“You don’t …”
“It was my father and brother. This isn’t the first time they have left their handiwork on my body. You see, we at one time were a loving family until one night that changed.” I tell them everything from when mom died in that crash.
By the time I have finished telling them, my face is wet with tears. I gently wipe them away as I take a breath in and groan from the pain. Harry and Rebel both share a look and they both look pissed as hell. I shift uncomfortably, feeling the tension rising and the temperature dropping. I shiver.
“Sophie.” Harry says with a gulp and I look up as he takes my hand in his. I gulp, my throat feeling dry as I meet his warm honey coloured eyes.
