Dorothy cradled his face in her hands and leaned in for a kiss.
"Promise me, we'll forget the past. No more dwelling on it, no more talking about it. I believe everything that happened was just a process, a test of our love. And now that the test is over, we're still together. That's what truly matters."
Everett was just too caring.
His love was always tinged with a sense of owing more, and it showed.
But the burden was too heavy, and thinking too much wasn't what Dorothy wanted to see.
Holding her hand tightly, Everett finally cracked a smile and nodded lightly, "Okay, your wish is my command."
Just as Dorothy was about to embrace him, the doorbell rang out of the blue—
"Who could that be at this hour?"
Everett looked just as surprised, clearly not expecting anyone.
But before Dorothy could get up, he pulled her back, "Stay here, I'll check it out."
Concerned it might be Maxton stirring up trouble again, Everett went to answer the door.
And there stood Jeffrey and Karen!
"Surprise, huh? Hehe!" Jeffrey, holding Karen's hand with a big smile, stood at the doorstep, "You called me about how to make that lemonade recipe, it's my secret formula. I figured I'd better show you in person!"
Karen chuckled, "I was bored at home anyway, so I tagged along! Where's Dorothy?"
"In the master bedroom."
Seeing Jeffrey's whipped expression, Everett's lips curved slightly, "Your parents must be relieved."
"That they are!" Jeffrey rolled his eyes, "You have no idea. At home, it feels like I'm the adopted one and Karen's their biological daughter! Even if she gets mad at me for no reason, my parents will still chew me out. In the family hierarchy, I'm below our daughter!"
"Finding someone who can handle you wasn't easy. Your parents are just worried Karen might leave."
"That's for sure!"
Despite his complaints, Jeffrey was thankful for his parents' support.
Without their help, reconciling with Karen would have been much harder.
After all, if his parents were like Everett's... well, that would've been the end of it. Just getting past Derek and Serena would have been impossible!

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
