Felicity's heart raced as she realized the car door was locked and her attempt to flee was thwarted by Miles' firm grip pulling her back. The sound of the lock clicking into place echoed in her ears, sealing her fate - there was no escape now.
"Come on, the courthouse is closed at this hour! Can't you just let me go home for now?"
"No way."
Miles slammed his foot on the gas, and the car shot forward like an arrow released from its bow.
As familiar streets whizzed by, Felicity's heart sank. She pieced together his intentions even without him saying a word...
"Miles, can you just cool it for a second? Calvin and I just watched a movie, that's all!"
"And what else did you intend to do?"
"..."
The car came to a halt in front of Bay Residence, and suddenly, Felicity's resistance shifted from not wanting to get in the car to not wanting to get out.
She clung to the steering wheel, refusing to budge.
"I don't want to meet Mrs. Sanchez!" This was essentially meeting the parents, wasn't it?
"Felicity, my mom already knows about us, and it's only a matter of time before your mom finds out. We're going to have to meet them sooner or later."
Felicity pouted, "I didn't plan on getting married so soon! Once we meet the parents, they'll start pressuring us non-stop."
All she wanted was a sweet romance, not to rush into what felt like a matrimonial grave.
Miles, standing outside the car, didn't dare to drag her out, fearing he might hurt her. He tried to coax her gently, "How about we just get the license and skip the ceremony for now? That way, no one can say anything. We can have the wedding whenever you feel ready, how's that?"
"Not cool at all! Abigail is almost thirty and not married yet! I'm barely in my twenties; I don't want to be someone's wife so soon!"
Even if it was Miles, she wasn't ready to settle down.
But Miles had made up his mind.
"Mum, I want to marry Felicity."
The statement was both within Dorothy's expectations and yet, a surprise.
It took her a moment to process.
"You two..."
"We're together now." Miles took Felicity's hand firmly, "We're planning to get married."
Before Dorothy could react, Felicity quickly interjected, "Don't listen to him! My brother is just... not in his right mind!"
"I'm not talking nonsense." There was a serious and determined look on his handsome face, "Mum, you asked me to think it over, right? Well, I have. I want to marry her."
