Felicity slept like she hadn't in ages.
Waking up, she felt a world of difference in her body, as if the sickness had decided to pack its bags and leave.
Lingering in bed for a moment, lost in a daze, she then remembered—guests were coming over today! No time for lazing around.
Jumping out of bed, she quickly changed out of her wrinkled pajamas and headed out of the bedroom.
In the living room, Ms. Sanchez was wiping down the table while Mr. Lopez chatted her up, both lost in their little bubble of affection.
And there was Miles.
He was brewing her a cup of tea. Tea?
Felicity, ever so sharp, connected the dots immediately.
After greeting Ms. Sanchez, she dashed into the kitchen.
"Did Langston and Calvin swing by earlier?"
It was too much of a coincidence. Calvin mentioned bringing her tea, and now here was Miles, making it!
"Yeah," he didn't bother hiding it.
"Where is he now? Did he say anything?"
Felicity was worried. Calvin had a mouth on him—loud and uncontrollable!
Definitely not as sharp as Miles.
If he had any intentions, drawing some information out of Calvin wouldn’t be hard.
"What are you afraid of?"
Instead of answering, Miles turned to face her squarely.
He towered over her, making Felicity feel like she had no ground to stand on, almost as if he could pick her up with a mere lift of his hand.
She shrank back a little, managing a nervous laugh, "Nothing, just asking."
"Are you worried he might misunderstand something between us? Or are you worried he might get jealous?"
The moment he spoke, Miles couldn't hide the bitterness in his voice.
He was bothered.
Calvin's words, his relationship with Felicity, it felt like a thorn lodged deep within him.
Painful to leave in, painful to pull out, and painful at even the slightest touch.
And it was true.
That sleep had been incredibly restorative.
"Mine's complex; yours is simple. Let's just go with the flow."
"Fair enough."
Without overthinking, Felicity didn't object.
Why not see the herbalist?
As they chatted on the living room couch, the doorbell rang.
Just as Felicity stood to answer it, she noticed Langston had already beaten her to it.
The herbalist at the door indeed looked the part—professional and authoritative.
Dorothy stood up, and Felicity followed her lead.
"Let's start with her. Felicity's been under the weather for a while, and my situation can wait. We've got time."
Understanding her son's eagerness, she subtly signaled the herbalist.
