"Alright then, as long as you understand, I won’t worry anymore." Miles said, standing by the door, ready to leave. "Give your mom a call. I’m heading out."
"Yeah."
Craig saw Miles out and shut the door behind him. He sank into the couch, trying to sober up before dialing his mom’s number.
"Hello, Mom."
"Craig! What have you been up to? Why haven't you been answering your phone? Aurora said you might be busy with work. Haven’t I told you already? Your wife just had a baby, you need to be there for her! No matter how much work you have, nothing's more important than your wife!"
Amelie, being a woman herself, understood how much a new mother needed her husband's support.
Craig gave a small, resigned smile and murmured a response, not really saying much.
"Listen to you, already a father! You need to change that personality of yours. Find ways to make Aurora happy! Don’t be such a stick in the mud, always so serious and intense."
"…Am I really like that?"
"Of course! How often do you actually smile? Half the time you’re expressionless! Look at Aurora, she’s such a cheerful girl. You need to make her feel there are happy moments in life! She married you and had your child. Be grateful!"
Craig pressed his lips together tightly, unsure of what to say.
"Listen to me, go be with your wife and son! Work can wait. Nothing’s more important than family!"
The call ended, leaving Craig feeling like a part of him had been hollowed out.
How could he go back to his wife and son now?
...
Two years later, early summer.
Miles walked over, gently lifting her into a sitting position at the edge of the bed as he spoke. "There's a meeting overseas. I couldn’t bear to wake you, so I decided to handle it myself."
Felicity was in charge of the Anglonia branch, but Miles often helped her with work at home, allowing her to sleep in and hang out with her friends more often.
She was still young and full of life, and Miles didn’t want her to lose her freedom to work after marrying him.
"Hehe, you're the best!"
Felicity beamed, wrapping her arms around Miles’ neck and planting a kiss on his cheek. "Oh, by the way, I'm heading to Willowbrook City with Abigail today. No idea when I'll be back. If it's too late, don’t wait up for me."
"Willowbrook City? Is her art exhibit there?"
"Yep!" Felicity grinned at the thought. "You haven’t seen it, but the guy who's been pursuing Abigail is stunning! He looks just like a doll!"
