The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 220

That night, Ronan didn't come back.

Brooklyn asked Cordelia to grab a bite with her.

Neither of them had the appetite, which was a stark contrast from their usual selves.

Brooklyn held Cordelia's hand tight, "Cordelia, don't be like this. We're all torn up about Shelley's passing. We all know it wasn't an accident but the cops ruled it as one. What can we do?"

"You think it wasn't an accident too?" Cordelia asked.

"Yeah, we all do. I heard Ronan had Shelley's body cremated way too soon. Also, why did you sleep for so long?" Brooklyn asked Cordelia.

Cordelia frowned slightly. If she wasn't mistaken, she had been out cold for four days and three nights.

In those four days, he had settled everything.

Cordelia suspected that Ronan had spiked her food or drink with sleeping pills.

If he had nothing to hide, why the rush? Why drug her so that she would be absent when the police came for questioning?

"Also, today Ronan had your office desk cleared out. Where are you going?" Brooklyn asked Cordelia.

"Probably US. I told him I was leaving the country. He might not want me to go as Jamie is going there at the end of the year. But I'm adamant about leaving. After what happened to Shelley, he has no choice but to agree." Cordelia's gaze became sharp.

Brooklyn wanted to say something but hesitated.

"What is it?" Cordelia asked her.

"You leaving the country means you probably won't be coming back for a while. What about you and Ronan?” Brooklyn asked.

"I was planning on divorcing him anyway. Ronan is loaded. Money can do anything. It can silence cops, and he can easily find other women. We'll live our separate lives. That’s the end of story." Cordelia was cold and dismissive.

"But you guys looked like you were getting along so well before." Brooklyn said.

Cordelia gave a cold laugh, "Did we?"

He was suspicious of her and Logan at first, then Jamie. He had always been a paranoid one.

The only good times she had with Ronan came recently, but they were about to end.

She had to grow up fast to stop living in his shadow, depending on his money, and putting up with his moods.

"When you leave, Edwin and I will see you off. With all the rumors going around the company, it might be best for you to stay away." Brooklyn said.

Cordelia nodded.

She stayed at Shelley's house for ten days. Before she left, she put a photo of Shelley in her wallet.
