The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 665

Harold's affection for Cordelia, which had been bubbling under the surface, now burst forth in full bloom after her latest act of kindness. The woman of his dreams was standing right in front of him: compassionate, considerate, and stunningly elegant.

Ronan happened to glance back and caught Harold staring at Cordelia with a tender, longing gaze. The smile that had been playing on Ronan's lips vanished instantly. Emerson and Daniella exchanged a knowing look before they excused themselves, taking Ronan along with them.

Janice, having finished mending the badge, handed it back to Harold and then approached Cordelia. "Was it really necessary to slap Dr. High?" she chided. "Couldn't you have handled it differently?"

Jayson had been staying with them for a while now, and Janice wasn't particularly fond of his behavior. She had a soft spot for Dr. High, who had always been kind to her, so naturally, she sided with him.

Cordelia's face was clouded with confusion, and she said nothing.

"Mr. Evans, Cordelia, Mom, I'm heading out," Harold announced as he put on his hat. At the doorway, he turned back for one last look at Cordelia.

Once Janice had left, Jayson got up from the floor and flung himself into Cordelia's arms, sobbing uncontrollably. "Mom, Mom, I didn't mean to!" he cried.

Though young, Jayson understood enough to be deeply moved by what had transpired. Cordelia had defended him, seeing his actions not as theft but as something else entirely.

A warm surge of emotion filled Jayson’s heart. From that moment, he realized that not everyone was like Petra. Cordelia would fight for him, unlike Petra, who had locked him up, withheld food, and left him without a blanket just to make him sick.

Ronan watched Jayson clinging to Cordelia, his own emotions swirling within him, unspoken.
